Sinners’ Box Office Numbers: Total, Worldwide, Domestic, Opening & Records

Ryan Coogler’s vampire horror movie Sinners has just concluded its second weekend in theaters, and it is quickly becoming one of the biggest box office hits of 2025 so far. Sinners stars Michael B. Jordan in the leading roles of twin brothers Smoke and Stack. The two criminal brothers decide to leave Chicago and return to their Mississippi hometown to start a juke joint, recruiting help along the way. While the day starts out nicely, as night begins, things take a dark turn when the club is approached by three vampires seeking entry.

Sinners‘ phenomenal music scene allows the characters to let loose, truly experiencing freedom right before the horror sets in. Following a joyous celebration of music, life, and love, the movie sees the survivors inside the club fighting for their lives as the number of vampires grows. By Sinners’ ending, it is clear that the surviving characters grapple with the events of the night for a long time. The complex vampire movie has made an impact on viewers too, becoming a sensation that is both a box office success and one of the most talked-about movies of 2025.

Sinners’ Box Office Total (So Far)

The Movie Is A Huge Success

Sinners has been incredibly well-received by critics and audiences alike so far. It currently holds a 98% critics’ approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a 97% audience score to match, proving that it is well worth the attention it has garnered. To go along with its impressive critical reception, Sinners is currently topping the box office after two weekends in theaters. Its overwhelmingly positive initial reviews, the existing fan base for Ryan Coogler’s other films, and great word of mouth have all helped Sinners debut on top and stay there.

After two weekends at the box office, Sinners has currently grossed $163 million worldwide (via The Numbers). This can be further divided into $123.2 million domestically and $39.8 million internationally. Sinners had an estimated production budget of $90 million, and an estimated break-even point of about $225 million. While the movie has not yet reached this number, it has easily blown past its budget, already making it a huge success. Given how well Sinners has performed so far, it seems likely that it could cross this threshold with time.

Sinners’ Opening Weekend Box Office

Sinners Opened In The Top Spot

Sinners opened domestically on Friday, April 18, 2025, with some theaters showing Thursday night previews. Sinners made $4.7 million during previews, but its opening weekend easily surpᴀssed every prediction. Sinners opened Easter weekend alongside A Minecraft Movie, which was then in its third weekend. While A Minecraft Movie had been dominating the box office, Sinners took the top spot. In its opening weekend, Sinners grossed an impressive $48 million (via The Numbers).

Sinners‘ $48 million opening gave it the most successful debut weekend of any original film this decade.

Initial predictions for Sinners‘ opening weekend placed its earnings between $30-40 million and had it placing second after A Minecraft Movie (via Box Office Pro). Sinners‘ $48 million opening gave it the most successful debut weekend of any original film this decade. In fact, the last original movie to perform better in its opening weekend was another horror film, Jordan Peele’s 2019 movie Us, which debuted at $71 million. In short, Sinners‘ successful debut was a much-needed win for Warner Bros. and a much-needed win for original films.

Sinners’ Second Weekend Box Office & Low Drop

The Movie Made Almost As Much In Its Second Weekend

If Sinners‘ phenomenal debut was a surprise win, then its second weekend hold is perhaps even more impressive. After earning $48 million during the first weekend, Sinners earned a whopping $45 million in its second weekend. This represents just a 6% drop from Sinners‘ debut, a feat that is nearly unheard of. The typical second weekend drop for movies would be in the 40-50% range, though the success of R-rated horror movies can be more difficult to predict.

In fact, Sinners currently has the 31st lowest second weekend drop in history (via Box Office Mojo). Many of the films that have smaller drops or even notable increases in their second weekend are actually children’s films, setting Sinners apart even more. The only horror film that has ever fared better in its second weekend drop is Heart Eyes, which was released in February 2025 and saw a 19% increase. Sinners has clearly continued to benefit from positive word of mouth and the great reputations of its cast and director, and hopefully it will continue to do so.

How Sinners’ Box Office Compares To Ryan Coogler’s Other Movies

Coogler’s Movies Have All Been Critically & Commercially Successful

Ryan Coogler has directed five movies so far in his career, along with producing several others, and each of the films that he has directed has been a critical and commercial success. Coogler began his career with the biographical drama Fruitvale Station in 2013. The movie had a budget of $900,000 and ultimately grossed $17.4 million (via The Numbers). To date, this is his lowest-grossing film, but it was still a great success when compared with its budget. Currently, Sinners falls next in line as his second-lowest grossing movie, showing how incredibly successful Coogler’s career already is.

Movie

Budget

Domestic Opening Weekend

Current Worldwide Gross

Fruitvale Station

$377,285

$17.4 Million

Creed

Black Panther

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

$250 million

$181.3 Million

$859.2 Million

Sinners

$48 Million

$163 Million

Given that Sinners has only been in theaters for two weekends, it will inevitably pᴀss Coogler’s third highest-grossing movie, Creed. The 2015 movie grossed $174.1 million on a budget of $37 million, once again making a notable profit (via The Numbers). Unsurprisingly, Ryan Coogler’s two highest-grossing movies are Black Panther, at $1.33 billion, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, at $859.2 million (via The Numbers). Coogler’s MCU movies certainly had the benefit of the franchise’s built-in audience, but his new success with an original film proves he can succeed on his own.

Sinners’ Box Office Records & Milestones Explained

Sinners Has Easily Pᴀssed All Early Box Office Predictions

While Sinners may not be Ryan Coogler’s highest-grossing film, it is certainly a mᴀssive success and an all-around impressive piece of filmmaking. Sinners easily surpᴀssed both its opening weekend and second weekend predictions, and it has surpᴀssed several milestones in the process. Most recently, Sinners pᴀssed the $150 million milestone. This makes it only the fourth Hollywood movie to do so in 2025 so far, following A Minecraft Movie ($815.9 million), Captain America: Brave New World ($414.8 million), and Snow White ($200.2 million), and fifth globally when including the Chinese movie Ne Zha 2 ($1.89 billion).

Sinners has also already entered the domestic top 20 highest-grossing horror movies of all time. Currently, the 2025 movie sits at 19th, narrowly behind Nope at 18th. After just 10 days in theaters, Sinners is sure to move up further in the coming weeks. While the release of the new Marvel movie Thunderbolts* this weekend means that Sinners will likely move down into the second position, it will undoubtedly continue to bring in viewers and profit. Overall, Sinners has a lot of support behind it and its box office accomplishments so far more than solidify that.
