May 2025 is bringing a variety of movies to theaters, such as the latest chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a slasher movie, a musical drama, the return of a horror franchise, a new Disney live-action remake, and more. 2025 so far has welcomed some fun and successful movies from different genres, continuing the successful streak of 2024, and there’s still a lot more to come. This year has also seen some surprise hits already, and May might bring more from this category and some expected successes.

April 2025 saw the release of the Mickey Mouse horror movie Screamboat, the fantasy movie A Minecraft Movie, the comedy horror Hell of a Summer, the thriller Drop, the spy thriller The Amateur, the war movie Warfare, and it closed on a high note with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. Now, May is bringing more variety to theaters, with the debut of a different type of team from the MCU, a horror movie starring a clown, a new Final Destination movie, the return of Ethan Hunt, a Disney live-action remake, a new Karate Kid movie, and more.

A group of antiheroes is caught in a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly trap by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfuss), who forces them into becoming a team so she can send them on a dangerous mission that could redeem them… if done right, of course. The team is forced by Yelena (Florence Pugh), Bucky (Sebastian Stan), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen).

A new adaptation of William Shakespeare’s classic Romeo and Juliet is coming to theaters in May 2025, and this one is a musical romantic drama. Written and directed by Timothy Scott Bogart, Juliet & Romeo is set in 1301 and follows Juliet (Clara Rugaard) and Romeo (Jamie Ward). The two meet and fall in love, but their families are rivals, and they each have a plan for Juliet and Romeo’s future, which they both reject. Despite its historically accurate setting, Juliet & Romeo is accompanied by pop musical numbers, giving Shakespeare’s story a modern twist.

Final Destination Bloodlines

The Final Destination franchise is back with its sixth movie, Final Destination Bloodlines. Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, Final Destination Bloodlines gives a twist to Death’s rules as established by the previous movies. It follows Stefani (Kaitlyn Santa Juana), who begins to be haunted by a nightmare about her family’s deaths. Stefani returns home to get help from the only person who can help her prevent such tragic events: her grandmother, Iris (Gabrielle Rose). In the 1960s, Iris had a vision of a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly accident and saved many people, but now Death is coming for their descendants.

In Hurry Up Tomorrow, The Weeknd is an insomniac musician on the verge of a mental breakdown. However, he’s pulled into an existential odyssey by a mysterious stranger named Anima (Jenna Ortega).

Hunt must get to Gabriel before he can get his hands on an AI program that can weaken the world’s stability.

The latest Disney live-action remake is Lilo & Sтιтch. Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, Lilo & Sтιтch follows Lilo (Maia Kealoha), an orphaned six-year-old girl who lives with her 18-year-old sister and legal guardian, Nani (Sydney Elizebeth Agudong). One night, a spaceship carrying a blue koala-like alien experiment crashes on Earth, and Lilo adopts it as her dog and names it “Sтιтch.” While Lilo and Sтιтch bond, Sтιтch must hide from the aliens coming after him, while Nani confronts social workers who want to take Lilo away from her.

Craig feels accepted and that he now has a good group of friends, but when Austin tells him they can’t be friends anymore, Craig refuses to accept it.
