Godzilla & Kong Finally Have Worthy Compeтιтion After The Monsterverse’s $2.5 Billion Success

The Monsterverse‘s $2.5 billion box office total proves it to be a successful franchise, yet a worthy compeтιтor could be on the horizon that will give it a run for its money. For a while in the Hollywood landscape, the тιтans of the Monsterverse have been the only true monster movies made on mᴀssive budgets. Although there have been outliers, the Monsterverse timeline is the biggest franchise of its ilk and has been for a long time, as backed up by its reception.

While some of the Monsterverse movies rank poorly among critics, like Godzilla: King of the Monsters, all of them have been relatively successful at the box office. As of the release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the franchise has grossed over $2.5 billion, likely driven by its aforementioned singularity as a true, big-budget monster franchise. With a Godzilla x Kong sequel on the horizon, the franchise looks set to capitalize on its status. That said, a worthy compeтιтor may finally have presented itself – a compeтιтor that could benefit both franchises while offering something different from the Monstervers’s тιтans.

Alien And Predator’s Eventual Crossover Gives The Monsterverse Worthy Compeтιтion

Two Other тιтans Of The Monster Genre Could Come To Blows

The compeтιтor in question could be another crossover between the Alien and Predator franchises. The two have crossed over before, yet the Alien vs. Predator movies are often regarded as the worst-ranked in the Alien or Predator franchises. Nonetheless, teases that another crossover is in the works have been plentiful. Not only did the head of 20th Century Studios tease as much to The Hollywood Reporter, but a secret Easter egg was spotted in the recent trailer for the next live-action Predator movie, Predator: Badlands.

If indeed these teases are capitalized on and another Alien and Predator crossover is placed into production, the Monsterverse could finally have some compeтιтion. As already alluded to, the Monsterverse is fairly singular in that it is one of the only franchises today that features iconic monster characters duking it out. Alien and Predator feature two of the other most iconic monster designs in movie history, and a crossover done right could become a mᴀssive commercial success. If so, Godzilla and Kong may have monster compeтιтion in the form of the Yautja and Xenomorphs.

How A New Alien Vs. Predator Crossover Can Be Different From Godzilla Vs. Kong

Differences Prove How Compeтιтion Could Breed Success

If an Alien vs. Predator crossover were to happen, it would provide worthy compeтιтion to the Godzilla x Kong movies because of how different it would be. The first major difference between the two would be size, both figuratively and literally. Regarding the former, the Monterverse movies have soaring budgets due to the CGI-heavy stories involved, meaning an Alien vs. Predator movie could be more conservative from a financial perspective.

Then there is the size difference between the monsters themselves. The Monsterverse provides big, gigantic clashes of literal тιтans, which the Alien vs. Predator movies would not do. The latter features smaller monsters, meaning a bigger focus on more traditional action thrills could be implemented. Moreover, the Monsterverse places its focus mostly solely on these big monsters, whereas the Alien and Predator franchises thrive just as much in their human characters as they do their monsters. All of these differences could provide compeтιтion with the Monsterverse, allowing space for both to succeed in a modern Hollywood that brings monsters back to the fore.
