Jack Quaid’s Sci-Fi Horror With 93% RT Score Becomes Streaming Hit

Jack Quaid’s star power continues to rise. The actor will be best known to many viewers for his role as Hughie Campbell in Prime Video’s The Boys, which recently returned for season 4 last year. Now, The Boys season 5 is set to bring the hit superhero parody show to an end, but Quaid has shown in recent years that he could have a bright future ahead of him in the world of movies.

After making his feature film debut in The Hunger Games (2012), Quaid has taken on increasingly prominent roles in a variety of movie projects. Quaid, who is the son of actors Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, also appeared in Logan Lucky (2017) and Rampage (2018), before making a splash in horror in 2022’s Scream legacy sequel. He next had a supporting role in the sprawling cast of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer (2023), and, this year, he’s made the jump to action hero with Novocaine (2025). Prior to that film, however, Quaid starred in a buzzy sci-fi horror.

Companion Dominates On Streaming

The Jack Quaid Sci-Fi Horror Beats Some Major тιтles

Companion

has just become a big hit on streaming. Directed by Drew Hancock, the sci-fi horror movie stars Sophie Thatcher as Iris, a robot who finds herself in danger after a weekend getaway with her boyfriend, Josh (Quaid), turns violent. Also starring Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Rupert Friend, and Harvey Guillén, Companion reviews were glowing from critics upon the movie’s release on January 31, with the film subsequently landing on VOD on February 18.

Now, new data from Reelgood reveals that, following the movie’s Max release on April 18, Companion ranks as the fourth most popular тιтle on streaming in the U.S. for the week of April 17 – 23. When looking only at movies, Hancock’s film moves up to second place. On the movies and TV list, Companion beats тιтles like Ransom Canyon (2025–), Your Friends & Neighbors (2025–), G20 (2025) and The Order (2024). Check out the full list below:

What This Means For Companion

The Film’s Performance Explained

Sporting a 93% critics’ score and an 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, Companion charmed viewers upon its release with its twisty narrative and the compelling performances from Thatcher and Quaid. The mix of horror and comedy, too, was a highlight mentioned in many reviews. At the box office, Companion grossed $36.7 million worldwide on a $10 million budget, making it a commercial success in addition to a critical one. Purely in terms of theatrical performance, then, the film was a win for Quaid, Thatcher, and Hancock.

With Companion now excelling on streaming, too, Quaid’s future as a movie star is looking much more promising, as is Thatcher’s, especially considering she also just recently starred in Heretic (2024). The 2025 film excelling in theaters and on streaming suggests it was likely also a hit on VOD, further adding to its success. It’s unclear when Quaid may next return to the horror genre after movies like Scream and Companion, but he’s evidently still a star on the rise.
