The Throne Of Glᴀss Books’ Worst Aelin Habit Presents A Major Obstacle For A TV Show Or Movie

Throne of Glᴀss is ripe for a screen adaptation, but Sarah J. Maas’ fantasy series has one bad Aelin habit that would complicate a movie or TV show. Hulu’s Throne of Glᴀss series doesn’t seem to be happening after being stuck in development hell, but the books offer a great opportunity for any network or streamer willing to adapt them. With their badᴀss heroine, complex fantasy world, and non-stop action and romance, Maas’ novels are the ideal choice when it comes to adapting her work. They could even make a solid Game of Thrones replacement.

But while many elements of Maas’ story lend themselves to an adaptation, there’s one detail of the Throne of Glᴀss books that presents a challenge. This is a bad habit of Aelin’s, and it grows frustrating, even in the source material. It could prove difficult to capture on-screen, especially for a show or movie that’s trying to sell viewers on its otherwise compelling heroine.

Aelin’s Secret-Keeping Is One Of Her Worst Habits Throughout Throne Of Glᴀss

The Series’ Heroine Hides Things From The Readers & Everyone Around Her

Aelin is a great heroine in Throne of Glᴀss, but she has one major shortcoming throughout Maas’ fantasy series: she’s far too secretive. Throne of Glᴀss repeatedly sees Aelin planning and scheming without updating her allies about her intentions. Despite readers experiencing the story from her perspective, even they’re not always privy to what she’s up to. This is meant to convey how clever Aelin is, but it often comes off as frustrating. This is especially true when the twists about her plans aren’t properly built towards.

And if this bad habit of Aelin’s is frustrating in the books, there’s little doubt it will come off this way in a movie or TV show, too. An adaptation has to include this element of the source material to some extent, as it will need to convey its main character’s quick-thinking and independence. However, hiding too much in a visual format could prove difficult, so any Throne of Glᴀss adaptation would need to walk a fine line when bringing this aspect of Aelin to life.

A Throne Of Glᴀss Adaptation Would Have A Hard Time Hiding Aelin’s Plans From Viewers

A Visual Format Could Make These Twists Feel More Awkward

Hiding Aelin’s intentions from readers is already awkward at times in the Throne of Glᴀss books, but it would present a bigger challenge in a visual format. While readers won’t be directly in Aelin’s head in a TV show or movie, they will be seeing where she goes and witnessing anything of relevance she does. This would make it feel more out of left field if Aelin reveals that she does something off-screen, especially if there isn’t enough foreshadowing and set up. Throne of Glᴀss would need to find away around that to ensure this Aelin detail doesn’t hurt an adaptation.
