2022’s John Wick-Like WWII Action Movie With 94% RT Sets 2025 Sequel Release Date Through New Studio

The sequel to a well-regarded, John Wick-esque World War II movie now has a release date. World War II movies have been a part of global cinema since before the war even ended in 1945. These range from then-contemporary movies such as 1940’s The Long Voyage Home and 1941’s Man Hunt, historical war dramas such as Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk and Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan, and even a number comedies including Charlie Chaplin’s The Great Dictator and Taika Waiтιтi’s Jojo Rabbit.

The phenomenon of movies taking after the John Wick franchise is much more recent, as the first of the lurid Keanu Reeves-led action movies debuted in 2014. However, they have been mᴀssively influential, spawning a number of imitators. Some of these, such as Atomic Blonde, Bullet Train, and Nobody, have been made by the John Wick production company 87Eleven Entertainment. However, many others have been produced elsewhere, including The Beekeeper, Gunpowder Milkshake, Kate, H๏τel Artemis, Monkey Man, and the World War II movie that has a sequel hitting theaters soon.

The Sisu Sequel Has A Release Date

It Will Arrive Before The End Of The Year

The anticipated sequel to 2023’s Sisu finally has a release date. The original Finnish movie, which was written and directed by Jalmari Helander, was set during World War II and followed a prospector violently protecting his gold from Nazis. Sisu reviews earned the movie a Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 94%, and the movie went on to gross $16.4 million worldwide against a reported budget of roughly $6.5 million. The upcoming sequel features the return of writer-director Jalmari Helander and star Jorma Tommila, now appearing opposite incoming actors Richard Brake (Barbarian) and Stephen Lang (Don’t Breathe).

Jorma Tommila will reprise his role as the prospector Aatami Korpi.

Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems has now announced that they will be bringing the Sisu sequel to the big screen in the United States on November 21 after the original action movie was distributed by Lionsgate. Both movies were produced by Screen Gems’ sister company Stage 6 Films, which retained the rights to distribution outside Finland this time around.

What This Means For The Sisu Sequel

The Wait For The Movie Won’t Go On Much Longer

Now that the release date for the sequel to 2023’s Sisu has been announced, the exact length of the wait between the two movies has been made clear. While the wait for the follow-up to the World War II movie will technically stretch to three years and two months after its Cannes premiere on September 9, 2022, it will return to the United States roughly two years and seven months after its original domestic debut, which took place on April 28, 2023.
