A Minecraft Movie’s Alex Casting Gives The Sequel A Brilliant Jason Momoa Replacement

A Minecraft Movie is already one of the biggest films of 2025, and there are a lot of reasons to be excited for what comes next. While A Minecraft Movie‘s cast, headlined by Jack Black as Steve, was one of the big reasons it was so successful, one of the most exciting moments in the film was the reveal of a cast member who wasn’t even credited.

Kate McKinnon played Alex in one of A Minecraft Movie‘s post-credits scenes. The scene was quite short, with Steve going to his old house and finding that it was now occupied by Alex, but McKinnon’s face wasn’t even shown, as she was only seen from the back. However, McKinnon is likely to reprise the role of Alex in A Minecraft Movie‘s sequel, and her inclusion could potentially act as a replacement for Jason Momoa‘s Garrett “Garbage Man” Garrison.

Kate McKinnon Could Replace Jason Momoa As Jack Black’s Main Co-Star In Minecraft 2

If Momoa Leaves, McKinnon Would Be A Great Replacement

Kate McKinnon was revealed to be part of the cast in January 2024, but her role wasn’t revealed until the release of the movie this year.

Of course, given the success of the first film, Warner Bros. and Mojang will probably want to try replicating it as much as possible for whatever Minecraft‘s sequel is about. Movie studios seem to want to play it safe more often than not these days, and dropping an actor like Momoa could be seen as a risk. That said, Kate McKinnon would make for a great addition to A Minecraft Movie 2, even more so if paired with Jack Black.

Kate McKinnon & Jack Black’s Comedic Pairing Can Help Minecraft’s Sequel Repeat Steve & Garrett’s Chemistry

McKinnon And Black Would Be A Hilarious Duo

If Momoa doesn’t end up returning in a starring role, then McKinnon would be perfect as Jack Black’s co-star, and their comedic pairing could potentially be even funnier. Kate McKinnon is likely best known in recent years for her appearance in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, where she played Weird Barbie.

That character was hilarious, and McKinnon’s performance made it all the better, so if she brought that same energy to A Minecraft Movie‘s sequel, Alex and Steve would bounce off each other incredibly well. What exactly the yet-to-be-announced sequel will be about remains to be seen, but the franchise has some exciting possibilities to explore.
