Black Bag Streaming Release Date Revealed For Steven Soderbergh’s 96% RT Spy Thriller

The streaming release date for Black Bag has been announced, revealing when Steven Soderbergh’s critically-acclaimed thriller arrives on a platform. The movie follows MI6 agent George Woodhouse (Michael Fᴀssbender) who is tasked with investigating his wife, Kathryn (Cate Blanchett), who is suspected of leaking government secrets. Reviews for Black Bag praise it as a compelling spy film filled with twists and turns, earning it a 96% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the movie struggled at the box office when it was released in March 2025, earning $37.9 million against a $50-60 million budget.

Now, ᴅᴇᴀᴅline reports that Black Bag will be available to stream on Peacock starting Friday, May 2. This means the movie will be out on streaming less than two months after its debut in theaters, as well as one month after it was released on VOD and digital. This also means it won’t be much longer until the thriller is available on a streaming platform, offering it a wider audience than it’s had so far.

What Black Bag’s Peacock Release Date Means For The Movie

It Hasn’t Been Out Of Theaters For Very Long

In addition to Fᴀssbender and Blanchett, the cast of Black Bag features Marissa Abela, Tom Burke, Naomie Harris, Regé-Jean Page, and Pierce Brosnan in significant roles in the movie. It’s also the second of three movies directed by Steven Soderbergh in 2025, the others being the supernatural thriller Presence and the upcoming black comedy The Christophers. Given the positive reception of his spy thriller, it’s clear the movie is one of the most well-received by critics in 2025 so far.

However, the film’s unfortunate dip at the box office means it wasn’t as successful as it could have been, despite how highly-rated it became. With its new home on Peacock arriving two months after its theatrical debut, the movie stands a chance of getting more eyes on it that it wasn’t able to before. Given that it’s already seemingly one of Soderbergh’s best movies in quite some time, the film’s release on streaming could aid in it becoming more well-known, despite its theatrical run being over.

It’s unclear if Black Bag will get a resurgence once it arrives on Peacock, especially given its poor box office performance. However, since streaming makes it much more tenable for potential viewers to watch newer movies, the film could easily find new life on the platform once it arrives. Given its critical reception coupled with familiar faces in the lead roles, it could easily become a hit, even after having released in theaters beforehand.
