Ryan Reynolds Addresses Whether ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool Could Appear In The Upcoming Avengers Movies & Confirms His 1 Wish For Wade Wilson’s MCU Future

Ryan Reynolds has commented on what fans can expect from ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool‘s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Wade Wilson has become one of the most popular live-action Marvel characters. All ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool movies have done well at the box office, but the MCU’s first entry in the franchise, ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, broke several records, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time with over $1.3 billion. Based on the film’s success, all eyes turned to when a ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine sequel could go into production. However, Reynolds seems to have something else in mind for ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool’s MCU future.

Speaking with Time, Ryan Reynolds addressed whether ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool could show up as a supporting character in future MCU movies.

The actor was asked about how Marvel recently confirmed the appearance of Fox’s X-Men in at least Avengers: Doomsday and whether ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool could show up in one of the MCU movies that will feature the mutants — Marvel Studios also has an X-Men reboot movie in the works. According to the actor, ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool is likely to show up as a supporting character soon, saying, “I do think so.”

Reynolds also believes ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool can never join the Avengers or the X-Men, as it would fulfill his dreams. The MCU star wants ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool to play a supporting role moving forward. Reynolds also teased that he could be writing a new ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool project, saying, “I’m writing a little something right now. It’s an ensemble.”

What Ryan Reynolds’ New ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool MCU Comments Mean

A Major Change Is Coming For Wade Wilson

So far, Reynolds’ ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool has always been the star of the projects he appeared in, save for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but that was a very different iteration of Wade Wilson. Both Fox and now Marvel Studios have had great success with that approach, which makes Reynolds’ desire for ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool to become a supporting player in the MCU quite interesting. Instead of following the natural path and leading another ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool movie, perhaps even a ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine follow-up with Hugh Jackman, Reynolds’ ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool is more likely to appear in other characters’ projects.

Reynolds’ new MCU comments also make it likely that ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool will appear in one of the upcoming Avengers movies. While Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars were not mentioned by name during the interview, Reynolds was asked about appearing in one of the MCU movies confirmed to feature the X-Men. The next project to feature the mutants is Avengers: Doomsday, which will bring back Fox’s X-Men and Channing Tatum’s Gambit. Based on how Gambit debuted in ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine and Reynolds teased his inclusion in those movies as a supporting player, ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool could be announced at any moment for Avengers: Doomsday.

Our Take On Ryan Reynolds’ New ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool MCU Comments

Reynolds’ ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool Can Work As A Supporting Player

While it might not be what I expected ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool’s future to look like, I don’t dislike Reynolds’ decision that ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool should be a supporting player moving forward. I think the character is at his strongest when we get to see ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool bounce off other heroes, such as Jackman’s Wolverine or Chris Evans’ Human Torch in ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine. As a supporting player in the Avengers movies, a Spider-Man film, and more, we could get to see as many interactions between ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool and other MCU heroes as possible, and that is exciting.

ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool

The merc with the mouth first appeared in an issue of New Mutants in 1990, and since then has gone on to get his own series and a mᴀssive cult following. With his incredible powers of healing and regeneration, ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool was initially depicted as an X-Men villain but went on to become an anti-hero. After getting his own movie series starting in 2016, the third ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool movie finally brings the wisecracking, fourth-wall-breaking character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
