Ballerina’s Ana De Armas Explains Why Ice Skates Are The Perfect Weapon For Her Character In The John Wick Spinoff

Ana de Armas explained why she was so excited to use ice skates as a weapon in From the World of John Wick: Ballerina. The upcoming spinoff Ballerina will follow de Armas’ Eve Macarro, an ᴀssᴀssin who goes on a killing spree while seeking vengeance for the death of her father. In addition to de Armas, the cast of the action movie includes Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, Angelica Huston, and Norman Reedus. Anticipation is high for Ballerina, as it is the first spinoff movie in the John Wick franchise.

In the John Wick franchise, it is not uncommon for ᴀssᴀssins to use unique objects as ᴅᴇᴀᴅly weapons. In an interview with Letterboxd, de Armas claimed that ice skates are the perfect weapon for her character in Ballerina. She discussed how she wanted to be very mindful that Eve is an ᴀssᴀssin who is much smaller than a lot of the people she’s fighting. For Ballerina, de Armas embraced this, which is why Eve gets creative by using skates. Read her comments below:

I really was on board with the ice skates. When Len [Wiseman] told me that idea, I was like, “Heck yeah, we need to make it happen, because it’s just so brilliant.” There was something about the fights that, from the beginning, I wanted to put in there, in the story and the logic and the character that was, you know, really leaning into that I’m a woman, a lot smaller than all those guys in the movie. And I wanna respect that, you know, it is what it is. So using that thing in the John Wick [films] of everyday objects, it was very logical for me to do it that way.

What de Armas’ Comments Mean For Ballerina

Eve Will Go On A Killing Spree In Ballerina

Ever since the release of the first movie in 2014, the John Wick franchise has been one of the most critically acclaimed action series in the world. When it comes to action, all the John Wick movies have been better than the last. Even though Ballerina is very exciting, there are huge expectations for the spinoff movie. It is great that de Armas embraced that Eve is a drastically different character from John Wick. Even though she is still a highly trained ᴀssᴀssin, Eve likely will struggle more during fight scenes because of her smaller stature.

Based on the trailers for Ballerina, it seems like Eve will find very creative ways to kill her enemies. In addition to using ice skates, Eve will also use a wide ᴀssortment of guns, knives, a flamethrower, and, on the flip side, a fire hose to combat a flamethrower. It also seems like Huston’s character, The Director, will send John Wick to stop Eve while she’s on her killing spree. The most recent trailer for the movie teases that Eve will fight John Wick in Ballerina, which should be a thrilling action scene.

Our Take On de Armas’ Eve Using Ice Skates & Other Weapons In Ballerina

Ballerina Will Be Another Action-Packed Movie In The John Wick Franchise

Even though they may initially fight in the movie, I think John Wick will allow Eve to continue her mission, since he will likely relate to her desire for revenge. While it follows a brand-new protagonist, Ballerina will be similar to the first movie in the series, since it will highlight a high-stakes revenge mission. Seeing Eve hold her own in fights and share the screen with Reeves’ iconic character will be very exciting. Therefore, I have hope that Ballerina will be another great entry in the John Wick franchise.
