The Fantastic Four: First Steps Star Addresses Potential Silver Surfer MCU Spinoff Movie

The Fantastic Four: First Steps actor Julia Garner opens up on the possibility of a Silver Surfer spinoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios is kicking off Phase 6 with a big bang, as Marvel’s First Family will finally be making their way into the MCU franchise, with The Fantastic Four: First Steps arriving in theaters this summer. While the Silver Surfer is getting added to the MCU timeline, it will not be with Norrin Radd, but instead Shalla-Bal.

Garner recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about her debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps and the future of Silver Surfer. As the outlet addressed that there have long been talks about a Silver Surfer spinoff film, Garner was asked if she would be interested in headlining a Shalla-Bal project after her MCU debut in 2025, to which she said the following:

A hundred percent, I would love to do that. The Silver Surfer is such a cool character, and I feel like it’s so rare to be presented with any sort of mystery in this day and age. So any kind of energy like that on screen, I know I want to see that, so that would be awesome if that happened.

What Julia Garner’s MCU Spinoff Comments Mean For Silver Surfer

Garner being open to a Silver Surfer spinoff certainly makes the idea more possible, though there are some key factors to take into account regarding this matter. To begin with, Marvel Studios has not announced that they are developing a Silver Surfer movie, although that doesn’t mean they couldn’t be considering it. But even if they want to do a Silver Surfer offshoot after The Fantastic Four: First Steps, there is essentially no way they could fit it into The Multiverse Saga, as Marvel Studios is currently focused on Avengers: Doomsday and the remaining Phase 6 projects they have left.

However, if the reception for Garner’s debut as part of The Fantastic Four: First Steps cast is positive, that could prompt Marvel Studios to look at a spinoff to happen in Phase 7. The Fantastic Four characters are more than likely going to have an even bigger role in the MCU following their debut, which could also be the case for Shalla-Bal. However, a Silver Surfer spinoff is arguably best saved until after Phase 6, which would allow Marvel Studios to have more time to properly develop a solo story for Garner’s character.

Our Take On Julia Garner’s Silver Surfer Spinoff Comments

Julia Garner As Silver Surfer Speaking In The Fantastic Four First Steps

From Garner’s comments alone about a potential spinoff, it’s clear that she is more than game to flesh out Silver Surfer’s presence in the MCU. Whether it would be a full-on film, a TV show, or even an MCU Special Presentation, a Silver Surfer spinoff could explore how Shalla-Bal became the Herald of Galactus, or even adapt her comic romance with Norrin Radd, as that could be when he debuts in the franchise. But for now, fans can catch the Silver Surfer’s MCU introduction this summer in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
