Martin Scorsese’s Next Movie May Have Been Revealed With New Filming Update From Dwayne Johnson

Martin Scorsese‘s next movie may have been revealed with a new filming update from Dwayne Johnson. In February 2025, it was reported that the 82-year-old director was developing an unтιтled drama described as a Hawaii-set Goodfellas meets The Departed with Johnson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Emily Blunt set to star. The project reportedly sparked an aggressive bidding war between several studios, with Disney’s 20th Century Studios seemingly winning out. However, Scorsese has many movies in development, so it’s unclear which one he will make next.

Now, Scorsese’s next movie may have just been revealed. During a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Dwayne Johnson shared a filming update for the unтιтled Hawaii-set Scorsese movie, saying that it will be filming by next year. The actor also expressed his excitement about starring in a powerful, untold gangster story directed by Scorsese, who was deeply inspired by its cultural depth and themes of reclaiming heritage. Read his full comments or watch the portion of the video below:

We put this up on its feet. We called Scorsese and had a meeting with him, we pitched him, and he loved it. He was blown away that this story has never been told… This idea of telling this story with Scorsese; nobody does a gangster movie better than Martin Scorsese. He is the GOAT. He’s on Mount Rushmore with the directors. Nobody does it better than him. But I think what has really energized him with this project is this idea of a man who stands up — yes, a gangster, yes, a godfather, and, yes, ruthless — but also he stands up to reclaim what was originally stolen, and that was culture and that was land.

What This Means For Martin Scorsese’s Next Movie

It May Have Just Been Revealed

Ever since Killers of the Flower Moon was released in October 2023, Martin Scorsese has been exploring an array of possibilities for his next movie, starting with A Life of Jesus, based on the book by Shūsaku Endō, and a Frank Sinatra biopic starring DiCaprio, which both reportedly hit roadblocks. More recently, the Devil in the White City movie was reportedly revived at 20th Century Studios, followed by a Gilead adaptation entering development at Apple, with Scorsese and DiCaprio attached to direct and star in both.

However, considering Dwayne Johnson’s comments, it appears that Scorsese’s Hawaii-set crime drama will be his next movie. The project reportedly sparked a five-way bidding war between several studios, including Amazon, Apple, Warner Bros., and Netflix in aggressive pursuit, with Disney’s 20th Century Studios seemingly winning out in the end. Now, if it does begin filming by next year, as Johnson says, it could seemingly be released by late 2026 or early 2027.

Of all the movies that Scorsese has in development, his Hawaii-set crime drama is the most exciting possibility. It’s described as Goodfellas meets The Departed, two of the best movies that Scorsese has ever made. It’s also the most star-studded possibility, with not only DiCaprio set to star, but Dwayne Johnson and the Oscar-nominated Emily Blunt, reuniting the two after Jungle Cruise and The Smashing Machine. With its powerhouse cast, Hawaiian setting, and Martin Scorsese‘s signature style, the unтιтled film could mark a thrilling new chapter in his legendary career.
