Toy Story 5 Gets A Major Update From Tom Hanks With A BTS PH๏τo

Tom Hanks has confirmed that he has started working on the highly anticipated Toy Story 5. Even though the previous film in the series was once believed to be the final entry, the upcoming Toy Story 5 was confirmed at Disney’s D23 Expo in August 2024. The film will see the return of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and many other toys, who will try to stay relevant as their owner becomes obsessed with technology. Toy Story 5 is set to release in theaters on June 19, 2026.

Just a little over a year before the release of the movie, Hanks posted a behind-the-scenes pH๏τo on Instagram. In the pH๏τo, Hanks holds up five fingers to a microphone, confirming that he is returning as Woody and has begun recording lines for Toy Story 5. View his post below:

Toy Story 5 Will Reunite Woody & Buzz

Upon its release in 2019, fans believed the ending of Toy Story 4 was quite conclusive. The movie ends with Woody starting a new life with Bo Peep as a lost toy, while Buzz continues to belong to Bonnie. In this emotional ending, Woody and Buzz go their separate ways for the first time in years. Since a Toy Story film wouldn’t be the same without Woody and Buzz together, many fans believed that the series had officially ended. However, it has been confirmed that the sequel will reunite the two toys.

Since the release of the film is still a year away, practically no members of the cast of Toy Story 5 have been announced. However, it has been confirmed that Woody and Buzz will return. This means that both Hanks and Tim Allen will be voicing their iconic characters. While Hanks has officially announced that he has started working on the movie, Allen has also confirmed he has gone through recording sessions. Allen has teased the story will have a lot of focus on Jesse.

Even though the ending of the last movie was great, I am excited that another Toy Story movie is happening. I don’t think Pixar would make another movie in the series if they didn’t have a great story to tell, so I have hope that the project will be just as good as the other Toy Story movies. Early story details confirm the new movie will deal with technology, which means that it will tell a very relevant story. Over the next year, leading up to its release, I am excited to learn more about Toy Story 5.
