Warning: This article contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again.
The meaning of the new тιтle for Marvel Studios’ upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day has just been changed after the dramatic finale of Daredevil: Born Again. The official тιтle for Tom Holland’s fourth solo Spider-Man movie in the MCU was announced to be Brand New Day in March, confirming that Marvel will be moving away from the “Home Trilogy” and introducing a new narrative for Peter Parker’s Spider-Man. Scheduled to release in July 2026, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is perfectly set-up to expand on the MCU’s recent New York-based stories.
Ever since Marvel Studios integrated Netflix’s Defenders Saga officially into the MCU’s timeline, the street-level stories of the franchise have been given a lot more focus. 2025’s Daredevil: Born Again season 1 explored this corner of the MCU more than any previous project, reuniting Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, and establishing a new status quo for New York City and the MCU as a whole. The events of Born Again must have an impact on the story of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, especially after No Way Home took Peter Parker back to his roots.
Daredevil: Born Again Set Up New York City’s Brand New Day
Daredevil: Born Again Season 1’s Finale Premiered On April 15
At first glance, the new тιтle of the MCU’s fourth Spider-Man movie seems to be hinting at a brand-new day for Peter Parker. 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home ended with everyone in the world forgetting Parker, including the likes of MJ, Ned Leeds and Happy Hogan, which allowed him to continue his vigilante heroism on the streets of New York as Spider-Man, with his idenтιтy secret again. This means Brand New Day is a fitting тιтle for his next project, as the project is speculated to be debuting a new supporting cast, new villains and an entirely new Spider-Man narrative.

However, Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s тιтle could be hinting at something even more world-changing for the MCU – not just a new start for Peter Parker, but a brand-new day for the whole of New York City. Daredevil: Born Again’s intense and dramatic finale set this up perfectly, as Mayor Wilson Fisk enacted his “Safer Streets” initiative following Bullseye’s ᴀssᴀssination attempt. Fisk put New York under martial law and made vigilante activity illegal, with his Anti-Vigilante Task Force given special powers to enforce his new laws by any means necessary. This will surely impact Spider-Man, too.
Spider-Man 4 Needs To Address Mayor Fisk’s Actions In Born Again’s Finale
Wilson Fisk Is In Control After Daredevil: Born Again
The events of Daredevil: Born Again’s finale have changed the shape of the MCU significantly. Mayor Wilson Fisk has put New York City under the control of the Anti-Vigilante Task Force, has implemented a strict 8pm curfew and has outlawed vigilantism, which will have a huge effect on the activities of many of the MCU’s most notable heroes. Matt Murdock’s Daredevil has already voiced his ambition to form an “army” in the fight against Kingpin, but the Man Without Fear won’t be the only hero affected by Fisk’s new rules, as Spider-Man must be, too.
It’ll be hard for Peter Parker to operate as Queens’ Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man with Wilson Fisk’s strict curfew and new laws in place, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day must show the impact of this on the wall-crawler’s career. Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is scheduled to release in March 2026, which does suggest that Kingpin’s rule over New York might have ended by the time July 2026’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day rolls around. However, it would be a shame for Marvel to not show the impact of this major event on one of New York’s most prominent heroes.
Wilson Fisk Already Teased His Vendetta Against Spider-Man In Daredevil: Born Again
Kingpin & Spider-Man Are Adversaries In Marvel Comics
Even though Vincent D’Onofrio has recently suggested that he won’t be able to appear in a movie in the MCU, given rights issues between Disney and Sony, who own Kingpin’s film rights, there might be some leeway for him to appear in a Marvel and Sony-produced Spider-Man movie. This means that D’Onofrio might be able to reprise the role of Kingpin in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which would be even more exciting if Daredevil: Born Again season 2 fails to end his reign over New York. This would pay off Daredevil: Born Again’s fantastic Spider-Man name-drop.
After being elected Mayor of New York City, Daredevil: Born Again episode 2, “Optics,” saw Wilson Fisk refer to Spider-Man as a “man who dresses in a spider outfit” when listing troublesome vigilantes in the city. Fisk listed Spider-Man alongside Daredevil and the Punisher, both of whom have already appeared to face him and the Anti-Vigilante Task Force, so it would be great to see Spider-Man join their cause. Spider-Man and Kingpin are notable adversaries in Marvel Comics, so it would be brilliant to see them come face-to-face in the MCU.
How Spider-Man: Brand New Day Can Expand On Kingpin’s Plans From Born Again’s Finale
Kingpin’s Actions Will Impact Many New York-Based Heroes In The MCU
Die-hard fans of Marvel Comics will know that Daredevil: Born Again’s finale just kick-started a live-action adaptation of the comics’ Devil’s Reign event from 2021. This saw Mayor Wilson Fisk outlaw vigilantism in New York City, and build Thunderbolts teams comprising notable villains to enforce his new laws. While this role seems to have been filled by the Anti-Vigilante Task Force, Kingpin’s actions in Born Again could still impact as many heroes as they do in Marvel Comics’ Devil’s Reign, and this could bleed into several upcoming street-level MCU projects.
Marvel Comics’ Devil’s Reign event included most of Marvel’s New York-based heroes, including Captain America, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Daredevil and Elektra, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and the X-Men. It’s unclear which heroes will be involved in the MCU’s live-action version.
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 will directly continue this story in March 2026, while Jon Bernthal is also returning as Frank Castle in a Punisher-centric Special Presentation next year. These projects have been perfectly set up to continue Born Again season 1’s narrative, expanding on the Devil’s Reign exploration, but Spider-Man: Brand New Day is also a fantastic candidate to follow suit. Spider-Man plays a key role in Marvel Comics’ Devil’s Reign, is one of New York’s most prominent heroes in the MCU, and should find it hard to resist helping to protect his home, so Peter Parker must become involved.
