Anakin Skywalker actor Hayden Christensen offered Star Wars newcomer Ryan Gosling a warm welcome following the news of Star Wars: Starfighter. One of the most surprising Star Wars Celebration 2025 reveals was the news that Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie, confirmed to be тιтled Starfighter, would star Ryan Gosling. This only became all the more shocking when it was revealed that Starfighter would be the next upcoming Star Wars movie released after The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Evidently, Star Wars icon Hayden Christensen wasted no time welcoming Ryan Gosling to the Star Wars family. In a video posted by Entertainment Tonight on X, Christensen explained that he and Gosling had dinner and share a mutual excitement about this new Star Wars project.

Christensen also expressed that he believes the movie is going to be “really great,” and although we currently know little about the movie, we already agree.

Ryan Gosling’s New Character Is A Mystery

Details Are Sparse, But We Already Have Our Guesses

At present, very little is known about Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars movie beyond Gosling’s casting, Shawn Levy being at the helm, and the тιтle. There’s currently next to no information on the character Gosling will be playing. However, there are already some hints that suggest who he might be. For one, it seems safe to ᴀssume that Gosling will be the тιтular starfighter pilot, particularly because he’s almost certainly the leading character.

Interestingly, the subtle flash of light shown in the clip of the logo is clearly reminiscent of the lightsaber silhouette in the Jedi Order logo. This suggests that Gosling’s pilot could at minimum be Force-sensitive. Admittedly, that has me fairly convinced that Gosling will be playing a canon version of Legends Jedi Corran Horn, but, at least for now, that is entirely speculative.

Our Take On Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars Debut

This Casting Is Out Of The Ordinary For The Franchise, But It’s Exciting All The Same

Although it was heavily rumored that Ryan Gosling was in talks with Star Wars, this casting announcement still came as a surprise because it’s unusual for Star Wars to cast a major star—especially when it seems their star power is a factor. That isn’t to say Gosling isn’t a brilliant actor (he absolutely is), but the fact that Starfighter has very little information to share beyond Gosling’s casting suggests the franchise is focused on that star power.

I remain very excited about this movie all the same, not only because I agree with Hayden Christensen that Ryan Gosling is a great actor but also because this represents an entirely new story in Star Wars. In fact, with Starfighter confirmed to take place a few years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, this movie will explore an entirely new era. This warm welcome from Hayden Christensen to Ryan Gosling was wonderful to see, and it’s a great reminder that Star Wars: Starfighter is absolutely one to watch.
