James Gunn’s Superman Movie Is Getting An Official Prequel About Clark Kent’s Early Days In Metropolis

The story of Clark Kent’s early days in the DC Universe is officially getting a prequel project ahead of James Gunn’s Superman movie. As the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” line-up is getting ready to take a bigger spotlight in 2025, the Man of Steel is finally returning to the big screen with Gunn’s Superman reboot. However, fans will be getting to know Krypton’s last son a little bit earlier than that, thanks to DC Studios.

As the new Superman movie is getting closer to its theatrical release, Penguin Random House has announced that they are publishing an official prequel novel to Corenswet’s DCU installment, тιтled Superman: Welcome to Metropolis. Set to be published on June 3, 2025, the Superman: Welcome to Metropolis vook will focus on the following:

Superman: Welcome to Metropolis features an eight-page full-color insert with character profiles!

What David Corenswet’s Superman Prequel Reveals About The DCU’s Man Of Steel

Based on the description for Superman: Welcome to Metropolis, fans will get a chance to see how Clark settles in when moving to Metropolis, potentially even revealing how he ends up getting his job at The Daily Planet. Superman: Welcome to Metropolis will seemingly reveal how the Man of Steel and Lex Luthor end up as rivals prior to the Superman movie. However, the novel may also explore how some of Clark’s other key relationships are established, especially with characters like Lois Lane.

The one aspect that may have some readers curious is how Superman: Welcome to Metropolis is labeling Clark as a “metahuman,” despite the fact that he is an alien. This doesn’t mean that DC Studios is removing that element from Superman’s character, but it likely means that at this point in the DCU timeline, Clark doesn’t know of his Kryptonian heritage. However, it wouldn’t come as a shock if by the end of Superman: Welcome to Metropolis, Clark ends up finding out about his true Kryptonian origins.

Our Take On David Corenswet’s Superman Prequel

David Corenswet suited up in Superman

Based on everything that Penguin Random House has confirmed about Superman: Welcome to Metropolis, this will be a great introduction to the DCU’s take on the Man of Tomorrow, especially for younger readers. Since there have been prequels and tie-in material for previous DC movies, it will be fascinating to see how the DCU tackles this concept, as DC Studios intends to have more connectivity across mediums than the DCEU movie timeline. With only a few months left to go, the world will soon get to experience the new Superman movie and the proper beginning of the DCU.
