“Unbelievable”: Sigourney Weaver’s New Character In The Mandalorian & Grogu Teased By Dave Filoni

Dave Filoni discusses Sigourney Weaver’s character, who’s to debut in the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu film. Expected to release on May 22, 2026, the film will star Pedro Pascal as the тιтular hero alongside his young ward Grogu. The Mandalorian & Grogu’s story is confirmed to be a continuation of the end of season 3. Following her panel for the film yesterday, Weaver shed some light on her anticipated character, saying that she’s in the Outer Rim of the galaxy, where there are vestiges of the Empire.

ScreenRant was able to talk to Filoni at Star Wars Celebration, where he hyped up Weaver’s character and her work. He said that he enjoyed being on set with her and that she felt like someone whocould have fought in the Rebellion against the Empire that was a leader in her own right“, while going on to praise her work in the upcoming movie as being “unbelievable“. Check out what Filoni shared below:

But it was just great watching her work. I still always feel like I’m learning, and I learned so much by watching some of these just masters at their craft. And so I just enjoyed every day being on set with her and talking with her and just watching her work, watching her ask John questions in between takes. And she really feels like someone that could have fought in the Rebellion against the empire that was a leader in her own right and now is trying to figure out how do they fight a threat that seems to be growing and yet there are so many people that just aren’t heeding the warnings that aren’t maybe as aware. So that was exciting to have her in that role. And we’ll see where it goes in the film, but it’s Sigouney Weaver. Unbelievable.

What This Means For The Mandalorian & Grogu

Sigourney Weaver’s Character Could Be Playing A Big Role In The Film

The Mandalorian & Grogu will be Star Wars’ first film to be released in seven years. Because of that and the draw of the franchise, a lot of anticipation has been attached to the project, as well as a lot of secrecy. However, as the film is now only a year away, Disney and Lucasfilm have used the opportunity to reveal a few details about her character. It appears that Weaver’s character was once a Rebel pilot but now serves the New Republic, and, based on her interviews, she sounds like a close ally to the тιтular characters.

Filoni’s comments further hint that Weaver’s character will be playing an important role in the story of The Mandalorian & Grogu. Her previous interviews, which have shown her strong knowledge of The Mandalorian’s plot and the arcs of its characters, especially Grogu, add to this speculation. Filoni says that not only would Weaver have made an appropriate fighter for the Rebellion, but also “a leader in her own right,” suggesting that Weaver could possibly be the catalyst for something bigger in the franchise.

Our Take On Filoni’s Comments About Weaver’s Mandalorian & Grogu Role

Hopefully She Does Play A Big Role In The Movie

Sigourney Weaver in Avatar

A big influence on the sci-fi genre, Star Wars is lucky to have recruited Weaver. Establishing herself as one of the most impactful heroines in the genre, Weaver’s talents shouldn’t be wasted on a small role, and it doesn’t look like The Mandalorian & Grogu will be doing that, based on the combined interviews with Weaver and Filoni. It’s also pleasing to see Weaver’s knowledge of the franchise and The Mandalorian and her commitment to the role. There’s still much to be unveiled, but what’s been shown so far about Weaver’s character in the movie is promising.
