The Highest-Grossing Snow White Movies Of All Time, And How Disney’s 2025 Remake Compares At The Box Office

Director Marc Webb and Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White have brought the Brothers Grimm’s classic story back into the spotlight. 2025’s Snow White is one of the many adaptations of the original fairy tale, which was published in 1812. While Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is arguably the most popular cinematic adaptation, several other film versions of the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tale made by different studios have also been successful in theaters.

From live-action to animation, the story of Snow White has been presented in various forms of media, with varying tones and varying levels of success at the box office. Although many adaptations have tried to reinvent the tale of Snow White for more modern audiences over the years, few have done quite as well financially as Disney’s revolutionary 1937 film.

Red Shoes And The Seven Dwarfs (2019)

Box Office Gross: $9.7 Million

Produced in South Korea, this animated movie follows a group of princes who are turned into green-skinned dwarfs by a princess they ᴀssume to be a witch, forcing them to find Snow White, aka “Red Shoes,” so she can help them undo the curse. As this film tries to reinvigorate an old fairy tale for younger, modern audiences, Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarves attempts to upend preconceived notions of beauty through its тιтular characters.

While it received an English dub to reach international audiences, this $20 million movie supposedly flopped after only making $9.7 million in theaters (via Koimoi). The film was also probably hurt by its controversial marketing, which was accused of fat-shaming its characters and ironically undermining its more progressive message.

The Seventh Dwarf (2014)

Box Office Gross: $15.5 Million

Seven dwarves looking at a woman who has fallen in The Seventh Dwarf

The Seventh Dwarf follows the seven dwarves as they face a dragon and a witch to awaken a princess from an eternal slumber. This movie is one of the lesser-known adaptations of Snow White, considering that a relatively obscure German animation studio made it. The story also focuses more on the seven dwarves than Snow White herself, and takes elements from several other fairy tales, particularly Sleeping Beauty.

However, it is actually the second sequel to 7 Dwarves – Men Alone in the Wood, which was actually live-action. Despite The Seventh Dwarf being part of an established line of adaptations and receiving an English dub from audiences outside of Germany, Box Office Mojo says the film only made $15.5 million in theaters after being made on a reported $12 million budget (via Koimoi).

The Huntsman: Winter’s War (2016)

Box Office Gross: $165 Million

As a prequel and sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman, this movie reunited stars Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron while introducing characters played by Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain. However, as a film based on Snow White, The Huntsman: Winter’s War stands out for its noticeable absence of Snow White.

While its predecessor was a reasonable success in theaters, The Huntsman: Winter’s War made far less at the box office. Specifically, this follow-up film supposedly made almost $165 million against a $115 million production budget (via Box Office Mojo). Despite earning more than many other Snow White films, this prequel/sequel was deemed a box office bomb.

4

Mirror Mirror (2012)

Box Office Gross: $173 Million

This was one of multiple Snow White adaptations released in 2012. Mirror Mirror stars acclaimed actors Lily Collins and Julia Roberts as Snow White and the Evil Queen, respectively. Unlike previous adaptations, the story places a greater emphasis on the latter and her insecurities as it retells the iconic fairy tale of the duo.

Featuring an all-star cast and Academy Award-nominated costumes, Mirror Mirror reportedly made $183 million in cinemas against an $85 million budget (via Box Office Mojo). Though it tried to put a new spin on the Evil Queen’s character, Mirror Mirror didn’t quite stand out to audiences when compared to previous versions of Snow White and faded into relative obscurity. This was especially due to the release of the darker, more profitable Snow White and the Huntsman that same year.

Snow White (2025)

Box Office Gross: $183 Million

2025’s Snow White was swamped with controversy long before its release for a variety of reasons. From Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot’s casting to the seven CGI dwarves, it seemed like Disney’s live-action adaptation would have a hard time winning over audiences in theaters and making a profit.

While Box Office Mojo reports that Snow White earned around $183 million in theaters, it has yet to make back its maximum $270 million budget. Overall, Snow White‘s theatrical performance seems to have been the result of audiences’ growing fatigue with Disney’s string of live-action remakes. Considering how many of the company’s previous remakes received much more at the box office despite mixed reviews, it seems like Snow White has marked the end of an era for Disney.

2

Snow White And The Huntsman (2012)

Box Office Gross: $401 Million

Following the success of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Universal Pictures decided to replicate this film’s success by adapting the fairy tale of Snow White as a gritty, live-action blockbuster. This adaptation also came just in time for Snow White’s 100th anniversary, allowing the movie to capitalize on even more hype.

Featuring stars Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, and Chris Hemsworth, Snow White and the Huntsman went all out in turning a classic children’s story into a dark fantasy adventure that audiences could take seriously. From a financial standpoint, this 2012 film was a success, having reportedly grossed nearly $400 million in theaters against a $170 million budget (via Box Office Mojo).

Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs (1937)

Box Office Gross: $184-400+ Million

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was Disney’s first animated feature film, and for many years, it was the company’s most successful movie. As the world’s first-ever cel-animated feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was a groundbreaking artistic achievement that wowed audiences in 1937 and scored big at the box office.

With a budget of nearly $1.5 million, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is reported to have grossed nearly $185 million in theaters upon its initial release (via Box Office Mojo). However, after many years and many re-releases in cinemas, this landmark animated movie is reported to have a lifetime gross of $418 million (via /Film).
