One Action Scene In Sinners Completely Pays Off Michael B. Jordan’s Surprising Twin Casting

One scene near the end of Sinners pits Smoke and Stack, who are both played by Michael B. Jordan, against each other. Reviews for Sinners have been incredible, and it is arguably the best work of Jordan’s career since he plays two roles in the film. In Sinners, which is directed by Ryan Coogler, whom Jordan has collaborated with several times in the past, Smoke and Stack are clearly very close with each other. They grew up in Mississipi, and it is revealed that Smoke killed their father when they were young because of how much he beat Stack.

Since this incident, Smoke and Stack have seemingly been inseparable. The twin brothers left Mississippi and lived in Chicago for several years. However, in Sinners, they decide to return home and start a club in their town after committing several crimes in Chicago. Tragically, since Stack is turned into a vampire in the movie, the brothers have to go their separate ways at the end of Sinners. While Stack lives on as a vampire, Smoke seemingly dies of a gunsH๏τ wound and reunites with Annie and his child in the afterlife.

Smoke & Stack’s Fight Scene In Sinners Makes Michael B. Jordan’s Twin Casting More Impressive

Jordan Seamlessly Plays Two Characters In Sinners

After Remmick, the main villain of the film, discovers Smoke and Stack’s club, Mary becomes his victim. Mary is quickly invited back into the club and seduces Stack, tragically turning him into a vampire. While Smoke and Stack have spent their entire lives together, they are now on opposite sides and are forced to fight each other. This fight takes place during Sinners’ climax, during which Stack tries to turn Smoke into a vampire.

This fight scene highlights how technically impressive Sinners is, as Coogler and his team would have had to use body doubles and face-swapping technology during such an intense scene with a lot of movement. Smoke gets the best of Stack in this scene, but it is later revealed that he couldn’t kill him. This leads to Stack returning in the post-credits scene of Sinners, which takes place in 1992.

What Michael B. Jordan Has Said About Playing Two Characters In Sinners

Playing Twins In Sinners Was Challenging For Jordan

Sinners is unlike any other Michael B. Jordan movie since he plays two major characters in the film. In the lead up to the release of Sinners, Jordan discussed how he approached playing both Smoke and Stack. In an interview with Variety, he revealed that he worked with his dialect coach to make sure they sounded different, and was also super focused on creating different mannerisms for Smoke and Stack. At the premiere of Sinners, Jordan also told The Hollywood Reporter that playing twins was definitely the most challenging aspect of the movie. The actor said that he would constantly switch between the characters, and he had to shoot “every scene like four times, fives times, so I think the balance between going back and forth was difficult at times but you find a rhythm and after a while it was second nature.” While playing two characters in Sinners must have been difficult for Jordan, it makes for some amazing moments in the film.
