A Minecraft Movie Box Office Hits Staggering Milestone After Just 14 Days In Theaters

A Minecraft Movie has hit a staggering box office milestone. The new movie is adapted from the тιтular video game, following former video game champion Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Jason Momoa) and a motley crew of mismatched people getting trapped in a mysterious land known as the Overworld, where longtime human resident Steve (Jack Black) shows them the ropes. The theatrical release of A Minecraft Movie kicked off with a record-breaking $162.6 million debut haul that was the best in history for a video game movie.

Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, on Thursday, the final day before A Minecraft Movie‘s third weekend kicked off, saw the movie earn an additional $6.5 million at the domestic box office. This brings its domestic total to $303.3 million, meaning that it has pᴀssed the $300 million milestone in North America in the span of just 14 days. It is the first movie of the year to have pᴀssed this milestone, and it is the 20th movie to have done so since 2020, joining a roster that includes hits such as Barbie, Oppenheimer, Inside Out 2, and Wicked.

What This Means For A Minecraft Movie

It Is On Track To Earn $1 Billion

This result for the Minecraft Movie box office is impressive in its own right, but it also reveals that it’s still on track to become a billion-dollar movie. So far, only one video game movie – 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie – has ever earned more than $1 billion. While Minecraft outgrossed Mario‘s $146.4 million opening weekend, it has ultimately fallen behind its 2023 rival, which pᴀssed the $300 million milestone on day 11 and eventually grossed $1.361 billion worldwide. However, if the new release stays on its current trajectory, it could still leg out to a total of $1.126 billion.

A Minecraft Movie has already surpᴀssed Sonic the Hedgehog 3 to become the second highest-grossing video game movie of all time.

Additionally, it is highly likely that the movie has long since surpᴀssed its break-even point, meaning that it is already in the realm of pure profit. The budget of A Minecraft Movie is reportedly a whopping $150 million, but that total most likely places its break-even point around $375 million, a point that it has nearly reached in North America alone. Its worldwide gross has already exceeded $550 million, so the movie is already in very safe financial territory in spite of the fact that it still has many weeks left in its run.

Our Take On The Minecraft Movie Milestone

It Is Already One Of 2025’s Biggest Hits

In addition to being a showstopper on the scale of video game movies, A Minecraft Movie seems set to be one of the highest-performing domestic movies of the entire year. Even in the strongest of years throughout the 2020s, the maximum number of movies to have made more than $300 million in North America has been eight, in 2022. Although Minecraft could eventually be surpᴀssed by the likes of Fantastic Four: First Steps, Wicked: For Good, and Avatar: Fire and Ash, it will nevertheless remain in rarefied air.
