After Sam Neill’s Casting, I Hope Godzilla x Kong’s Sequel Is Brave Enough To Do Something That Will Change The Monsterverse Forever

The latest star to join the cast of the next Monsterverse movie is Sam Neill, and this could open the franchise up to a very interesting crossover opportunity. While the central characters in the Monsterverse date back to the 1950s with the iconic movie, Godzilla, the current Monsterverse timeline officially began in the 2010s. At the heart of the modern franchise is the rivalry between its two most popular creatures — Godzilla and “King” Kong. That said, the ending of Godzilla x Kong had the two teaming up to stop the apocalyptic threat that Skar King brought to the surface world.

So far, the plot for the next Monsterverse movie has been kept under wraps, but it has been confirmed that it will be a sequel to Godzilla x Kong. While the plot may be a mystery, some of the main actors have now been announced, and one of these is Sam Neill. As Neill’s most iconic role is Alan Grant in the dinosaur adventure horror, Jurᴀssic Park, the upcoming Monsterverse movie will not be the first time he has faced enormous creatures. This casting gives the Monsterverse a chance to do something very exciting.

Sam Neill’s Monsterverse Character Could Be A Continuation Of Jurᴀssic Park’s Dr. Alan Grant

It Is Not Yet Confirmed Which Character Sam Neill Will Play In The Next Monsterverse Movie

Jurᴀssic Park is one of Sam Neill’s best movies, and Alan Grant is a character that would not be out of place in a movie today. The paleontologist is not only an expert in his field, but he becomes a hero, facing down dinosaurs multiple times. It may be hard to watch Sam Neill in the next Monsterverse movie and not draw comparisons to Jurᴀssic Park, but the upcoming movie could lean into this. If Neill’s character resembled an older Alan Grant, this could take the Monsterverse in a very interesting direction, even changing it forever.

It is not yet known what kind of role Sam Neill will play.

When Sean Connery starred in the movie The Rock, fan theories that he was playing an older James Bond emerged, and it is possible that Sam Neill’s Monsterverse character could still be interpreted as a version of his Jurᴀssic Park character. Currently, it is not yet known what kind of role Sam Neill will play, but it has been suggested that he could play the father of Kaitlyn Dever and Jack O’Connell’s characters. The Godzilla x Kong sequel will be Sam Neill’s first movie role since 2023, and it is likely that the franchise has exciting plans for him.

Godzilla x Kong’s Sequel Can Hint (If Not Outright Confirm) The Monsterverse & Jurᴀssic Movies Are Linked

What Would A Jurᴀssic Park Crossover Mean For The Monsterverse?

A popular fan theory is that the Jurᴀssic Park movies exist within the Monsterverse. This can theoretically make sense if the dinosaurs are considered kaijus, because the Monsterverse has included Easter eggs for other existing movies, like Pacific Rim. It is unlikely that the Godzilla x Kong sequel will confirm a Jurᴀssic Park crossover as canon, but the sequel could make hints that could be explored further in a later movie. That said, if the Monsterverse is brave enough to confirm a link between the two franchises, this would change both forever.

A Godzilla vs. Kong writer has joked that the franchises could be connected, with the two existing in the same universe. There would certainly be a new monster hierarchy, with the iconic T-rex being much smaller and less powerful than the mutated Godzilla. There would also be more potential for mutated dinosaurs that are much more ambitious than the lab-created ones in Jurᴀssic Park. A Jurᴀssic Park and Monsterverse crossover would shake up both franchises, and this is not as improbable as it might seem. Sam Neill’s casting in the upcoming Monsterverse movie might just start things moving.
