Anthony Mackie Addresses Chris Evans’ Reaction To Captain America: Brave New World – “I Got A Text From Him Saying Good Job”

Anthony Mackie reveals what former MCU Captain America actor Chris Evans told him after watching Captain America: Brave New World. After receiving the Captain America shield from Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame and recovering it in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier finale, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson fully embodied the Captain America mantle in Captain America: Brave New World. Steve Rogers’ whereabouts are unknown at this point in the MCU timeline, but whether the original Captain America is ᴅᴇᴀᴅ or not is no longer relevant to his mantle anymore.

In an interview with E! News, Captain America: Brave New World star Anthony Mackie mentions that Steve Rogers actor Chris Evans texted him congratulating him for doing a good job as the MCU’s Captain America and telling him he loved the movie. Mackie confirms he hasn’t reunited with Chris Evans since their last time together at Marvel, though the two Captain America actors are still in touch. Read Anthony Mackie’s comments:

“I haven’t talked to him. I just got a text from him saying ‘good job’ and that he loved the movie. I haven’t talked to him because we’ve both been running around. He’s been in, like middle Europe somewhere, working.”

What Chris Evans’ Reaction To Captain America: Brave New World Means

Chris Evans Is No Longer Attached To The MCU’s Captain America

Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers played an essential role in the creation of the MCU since Captain America: The First Avenger. After eight years in the role, Evans retired Steve Rogers on a positive note, with Steve Rogers retiring to a different timeline to live a peaceful life alongside Peggy Carter. While the MCU could bring back an older version of Steve Rogers to mentor Sam Wilson and the new Avengers similarly to the comics, forcing Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers out of retirement would be a disservice to his Avengers: Endgame farewell.

Chris Evans understands how important it is for Steve Rogers to leave his Captain America days behind and how important it is for Sam Wilson to replace him. Evans returned to the MCU in 2024 for a comedic cameo role as a multiversal variant of Johnny Storm a.k.a. the Human Torch in ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, but this small role was different enough from Steve Rogers to avoid affecting his Captain America legacy. Likewise, Chris Evans could return in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars as a new character or an alternate version of Steve Rogers.

Starting with Captain America: Brave New World, Anthony Mackie isn’t overshadowed by Steve Rogers’ legacy. While Captain America: Brave New World didn’t meet the box office results of Marvel’s previous three Captain America movies, Mackie’s Sam Wilson deserves to have a superhero career as extensive as Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers. Fortunately, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars present Sam Wilson with the next step in his Captain America career, leading a new team of Avengers in their battle against Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom.
