New Toy Story 5 Story Tease From Tim Allen Sets Up Buzz & Woody’s Reunion, “Unbelievable” Opening Sequence

Tim Allen, the original and main voice of Buzz Lightyear, teases a reunion between Buzz and Woody (Tom Hanks) in Toy Story 5. Scheduled for a summer 2026 release, the upcoming feature film continues the story of the toys despite some of them parting their ways in the Toy Story 4 ending, which saw Woody and Buzz going in different directions. Woody and Bo Peep led their lives as lost toys, while Buzz stayed with Jessie, Rex, and Forky at Bonnie’s.

In a recent interview with WIVB, Allen confirmed that Woody and Buzz will come together in Toy Story 5. The voice actor teased “an unbelievable opening scene with Buzz Lightyears,” which likely refers to the previous revelation that there will be an army of evil Buzz Lightyears stuck in malfunction mode. Additionally, Allen also shared that the film will be largely about Jessie. Check out his comments below:

I can tell you that it’s a lot about Jessie. Tom [Hanks] and I do — Woody and I — do realign. And there’s an unbelievable opening scene with Buzz Lightyears. I can give you that, but I can’t give you much more.

What Tim Allen’s Comments Mean For Toy Story 5

Toy Story 5 Has Found A Way To Bring Woody And Buzz Lightyear Back Together

Since Toy Story 5‘s announcement, many have voiced their concerns about how the film will bring Woody and Buzz back together, given that their story originally led to the two toys saying their goodbyes. Previously, Allen has reᴀssured fans and potential viewers that the upcoming project isn’t a money grab, promising that the upcoming movie has a “very clever story” to tell. His return along with Hanks’ already indicated Buzz and Woody would come together again, but his specific phrasing, that they “realign,” is interesting.

From Finding Dory director Andrew Stanton, the upcoming installment will be different from the previous Toy Story movies. The actor has previously revealed that Jessie will be at the center of the conflict, being in a position that requires her friends’ rescue. It sounds like Toy Story 5 has found a refreshing way to see Buzz and Woody “realign,” instead of bringing them into one story forcefully. Despite their previous differences, they will be brought back together in more ways than one.

Our Take On Woody And Buzz’s Reunion In Toy Story 5

It’d Be Nice To Catch Up With All The Beloved Toys In Toy Story 5

The evil Buzz concept art once sparked rumors about Buzz being the main face to replace Woody in Toy Story 5. However, it seems that Allen’s comments have debunked the rumor by confirming the reunion. Buzz Lightyear has received its spinoff movie in the franchise, so the theory about Buzz leading a main Toy Story movie doesn’t really make sense.

After all, the franchise is about a group of toys, and Woody, being at the center of every film, is the glue that brings toys from different places together. While there will be changes in the new movie, Allen’s comments suggest that at least one thing will stay the same in Pixar’s Toy Story 5.
