Sigourney Weaver’s Star Wars Character Confirmed In A Surprising Turn

Lucasfilm just unveiled brand-new details about Sigourney Weaver’s mysterious character in The Mandalorian and Grogu, Jon Favreau’s upcoming Star Wars movie, at Star Wars Celebration 2025. Details about The Mandalorian and Grogu have been few and far between, and precious little has been revealed about Sigourney Weaver’s role in the movie to date. Thus far, Weaver had only been confirmed to be playing someone in a position of authority.

That just changed at Star Wars Celebration 2025, however, as Lucasfilm revealed brand-new footage of The Mandalorian and Grogu during this momentous event, including sH๏τs of Sigourney Weaver’s character in an X-wing jumpsuit. Although her character has yet to be identified, rumors have been flying that Weaver is playing Colonel Bishop, an officer in the New Republic Defense Fleet. This character name would also be an amusing homage, given Weaver is famous for playing opposite a character named “Bishop” in Aliens.

What Sigourney Weaver’s Character Means For Star Wars

Keeping Weaver’s Character Under Wraps Is No Doubt Intentional

Sigourney Weaver is unquestionably a powerhouse, and it will be thrilling to have her join Star Wars movies and TV shows. However, it’s notable that, even during a panel entirely geared toward The Mandalorian and Grogu—for which Weaver was present—the idenтιтy of this character remained hidden. This suggests that the idenтιтy of this character could be key or would reveal too much about the plot of The Mandalorian and Grogu. That certainly lends some credence to the notion that Weaver is indeed playing Colonel Bishop.

If Weaver was playing Bishop, that would point towards some pretty significant involvement between Din Djarin and the New Republic in The Mandalorian and Grogu, which has major story implications. It’s already known that in The Mandalorian season 3 ending, Din Djarin signed on to work with the New Republic in an as-needed capacity. With Weaver appearing alongside Din Djarin and Grogu in the new footage, though, Weaver playing Colonel Bishop would presumably mean something much more substantial for Din’s role.

Our Take On Sigourney Weaver’s Role In The Mandalorian And Grogu

This Story Will Prove Fascinating, Especially Given Weaver’s Prominence Already

Whether Weaver is playing Bishop or not, her role in The Mandalorian and Grogu will be fascinating. She represents an entirely new character in Din Djarin’s Star Wars story, and based on her appearance in the X-wing pilot suit alone, it’s clear Din’s story is about to take a major turn. Even with his arc having touchpoints with some of the most major characters in the franchise, including Ahsoka Tano and Luke Skywalker, he has seemed somehow separate from the mainstream.

That may very well be about to change, with Din perhaps becoming much more enmeshed in the New Republic and the politics that will inevitably come along with it. Particularly given Din Djarin and Grogu’s brushes with Jedi, other Mandalorians, and Imperial Remnants, this could prove very interesting. For now, we will just have to wait and see if Sigourney Weaver really is playing Colonel Bishop in The Mandalorian and Grogu and what other surprises may await us at Star Wars Celebration 2025.
