There was a time in the 1990s when Bridget Fonda was one of the most recognized names in Hollywood. Born into a famous family of actors — including her grandfather, Henry Fonda; her father, Peter Fonda; and her aunt, Jane Fonda — it seems only natural that she would follow in their footsteps. Following her first on-screen appearance in 1969’s Easy Rider with her dad, Bridget Fonda would go on to earn huge success as an actor.
Whether playing the victim of a stalker in Single White Female or a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly ᴀssᴀssin in The Point of No Return, it seemed like Fonda’s name was splashed over almost every movie poster during the ‘90s. Although Bridget Fonda quit acting in 2005, she seems to be enjoying retirement, and despite a public appearance in 2022, has made it clear that she has no desire to return to the big screen.
Bridget Fonda Retired From Acting In 2005
She Quit Acting To Spend Time With Family
Following her successful acting career, Bridget Fonda made her final appearance in the 2002 TV miniseries Snow Queen, playing the тιтular role. In February 2003, Fonda was in a car accident, which she luckily walked away from relatively unscathed. According to the New York Post, Fonda was driving on a rain-soaked highway when her car flipped over an embankment and rolled downhill. Despite her car being totaled, Fonda was fortunate not to suffer any serious injury aside from two fractured vertebrae (via BBC).

However, the accident wasn’t the reason that Fonda decided to take a step back from her acting career. Later in 2003, Fonda married film composer Danny Elfman, and in 2005, the couple welcomed their son, Oliver. It was then that Fonda decided to dedicate her time to her family and raising her child, along with her two stepchildren from Elfman’s previous marriage. Since then, Fonda has disappeared from the Hollywood spotlight, preferring a quiet life at home.
Fonda Was PH๏τographed In 2022 In A Rare Public Appearance
The Daily Mail Found Her While She Was At LAX
About 17 years after she retired from acting, Bridget Fonda would make a rare public appearance in 2022. While picking up her son, Oliver, from the LAX airport, the Daily Mail managed to get some pH๏τos and video footage of Fonda. The pH๏τos showed Fonda greeting her son, checking her phone, and riding the escalator.
In the video, the journalist waited for Fonda at her car, then asked her if she planned on returning to acting. Fonda was adamant that she had no interest, repeatedly shaking her head and saying “no.” The journalist continued to press, saying, “You have such an iconic career. Right? Some of the greatest movies. Is there any chance you’d make the move back?” Fonda replied, “I don’t think so, it’s too nice being a civilian.”
Besides hounding Fonda at the airport, there was another factor about the Daily Mail article that I personally found annoying because of how they described Fonda’s appearance. The author writes that Fonda “looked nearly unrecognizable as she ditched her former Hollywood glam for a more comfortable look.” They then go on to describe Fonda’s outfit, hair, and accessories, also noting that she was “makeup-free.”
Firstly, we can see from the pH๏τos what Fonda looks like, so commenting on it is not only inappropriate but unnecessary. Second, describing what anyone looks like while they are casually picking up someone from the airport — especially someone who is no longer a public figure — just feels like a serious invasion of privacy.
Where Bridget Fonda Is Now
The Daily Mail PH๏τographed Her Again In 2025
Since her public appearance in Los Angeles in 2022, Bridget Fonda has continued to live a peaceful, introverted life at her family’s ranch in Santa Barbara. Her desire to stay out of the public eye was made clear to the Daily Mail years before, yet the news outlet continued to cover the former actor’s personal life a few years later.
In January 2025, The Daily Mail published another article with pH๏τos of Fonda, including a headline which read: “Bridget Fonda, 61, shows off dramatic weight loss in rare sighting amid Hollywood’s Ozempic craze.” For those not in the know, Ozempic is a medical treatment for type 2 diabetes, which is also sometimes used for weight loss, and has been embraced by celebrities.
It shouldn’t need to be said that whether or not someone is a public figure, commenting on a person’s physical appearance is wrong.
The article went on to describe Fonda as being “much thinner than she has in recent years,” and saying that she had a “smaller waistline and thinner arms.” The comments under the article are even more disturbing, with one user writing: “[It’s] really a big shock seing [sic] how these people..once gorgeous..ended up so badly.”
It shouldn’t need to be said that whether or not someone is a public figure, negatively commenting on a person’s physical appearance is wrong. Bridget Fonda chose to step away from the Hollywood spotlight for a reason — and her personal life, including her physical apperaance, is her own business.
