A sequel to A Minecraft Movie is already being discussed, and the first film’s big post-credits tease promises that the next film is going to be so much bigger. While it did a good job of introducing new fans to the world, A Minecraft Movie barely scratches the surface of what Minecraft has to offer, with there being potential for all kinds of epic stories. While it isn’t yet known what forces of evil Steve and the A Minecraft Movie characters will face next, it is known that they will have a little help in their next adventure.

A Minecraft Movie is one of the biggest movies of 2025, with the long-awaited adaptation of the hit video game releasing after years of development. A Minecraft Movie has divided fans and critics, with many of the criticisms centering around Jack Black’s Steve. On the one hand, the character was very much a Jack Black character, with him not feeling like a Minecraft character. On the other hand, Steve is a fairly blank slate, meaning that there isn’t much to pull from. Interestingly, the sequel to A Minecraft Movie will get the chance to adapt another character.

A Minecraft Movie 2 Will Feature A Lot More Of Alex

Based On The First Film’s Post-Credits Scene

A Minecraft Movie features a post-credits scene that introduces another major Minecraft character: Alex. Alex is the female protagonist of Minecraft, with her being one of the most well-known playable characters in the game. Many fans of Minecraft were hoping that Alex would be featured in A Minecraft Movie, and while she technically was thanks to the film’s post-credits scene, she barely played a role in the film. Steve goes back to Earth and knocks on a door in the film’s final scene, with Alex answering.

Based on this post-credits scene, Alex will probably appear in A Minecraft Movie 2. It isn’t yet known how Steve knows Alex, if Alex is a master crafter, or if she has a connection to the world of Minecraft. Based on how Steve was characterized in the first film, Alex will probably be a normal human who travels to the Overworld and learns its ways. Since one of the biggest problems with the first A Minecraft Movie was that its non-Steve human characters were fairly boring, having another proper Minecraft human be introduced will help this.

She Is Minecraft’s Other Protagonist

Since Alex was introduced in the post-credits scene of A Minecraft Movie, it seems obvious that she will join the main cast in the sequel. It would be weird to tease her introduction and not do anything with it, and luckily, her involvement has already been confirmed. A Minecraft Movie director Jared Hess said that Steve and Alex will be involved with the next Minecraft story, a confirmation that surely has many fans of the franchise excited. The character we teased is Alex, the other mᴀssively critical character in Minecraft. It’s Steve (Black) and Alex, and so that’s the one that we will be bringing to the table without a doubt.

Interestingly, Alex’s face was obscured in A Minecraft Movie‘s post-credits scene, meaning that viewers don’t yet know who will be playing her. Since a big name like Jack Black headlined the first A Minecraft Movie, it wouldn’t be surprising for an equally big name actress to play Alex in A Minecraft Movie 2. There are all kinds of options for who could play Alex in the sequel, with this being one of the biggest questions surroudning the next Minecraft movie.

Alex & Steve Will Give A Minecraft Movie’s Sequel Greater Potential

Since She Is A Blank Slate

Since Alex and Steve will team-up in A Minecraft Movie 2, the sequel has much greater story potential. Even if Alex hasn’t been to the Overworld, her history as a Minecraft character means that she will probably become a master crafter on the same level as Steve. This means that the sequel could have even more interesting builds, allowing for a more creative time.

On top of that, Alex’s connection to Earth means that new human characters can be introduced. The main human characters in A Minecraft Movie have a fairly small circle of influence, and the introduction of Alex could change this. Much like Steve, Alex is a blank slate, meaning that the sequel to A Minecraft Movie can do a lot with her.
