Kate Bishop‘s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe could include another exciting hero if Hailee Steinfeld can have her way. The actress made her debut in the franchise on Disney+’s Hawkeye, where she interacted with MCU veterans, such as Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, and recent additions to the shared universe. While Hawkeye season 2 is not confirmed, some recent updates have suggested it could happen. Kate Bishop’s MCU return could also happen elsewhere, as she was last seen being recruited by Ms. Marvel for a new team. If she returns, Steinfeld has crossover ideas.
Speaking to Collider, Hailee Steinfeld revealed that she would love to see more of Kate Bishop and Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova in the MCU. The two characters came together in Hawkeye season 1, where Yelena thought that Renner’s Clint Barton had killed her sister, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow.
Steinfeld calls Pugh a “powerhouse,” remembering how the actress, who will appear in the MCU’s next 2025 movie, Thunderbolts*, had no problem quickly adapting to the way the Hawkeye crew worked, and they soon built a great dynamic. Steinfeld ends by saying she would love to bring Kate and Pugh’s Yelena again in future MCU projects. Check out the full quote below:
“Well, first of all, she is a powerhouse. She came on set — and I experienced this with Dickinson — where it’s not particularly easy for someone to come in as a recurring or a guest starring role in that episode when you have built the foundation, and you’re there every day, and you have your shorthand with people. And then somebody comes in — in the middle of two projects or right fresh off of another one, whatever it is — and really take their claim and hold their own. And that was no problem for Florence, nor do I think that ever has been or will be. But she is such a force.
One thing, too, that I learned in the world of TV versus film, things move a lot faster. So Florence came in, and we had these scenes that were very heavy on the dialogue, and so we got right to work with the dynamic and how we could make it sort of flow as best as it could. We hit it off immediately, and we just had the best time together.
She’s wonderful. I would do anything to work more with Florence, especially in the Kate and Yelena world. I think we’d have a lot of fun.”
What Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop & Yelena Belova Team-Up Comments Mean
The MCU Duo Could Meet Again Quite Soon
Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop and Pugh’s Yelena Belova had great chemistry during their time together in Hawkeye. As such, it would make sense for the MCU to use it again, and based on the Kate Bishop actress’ latest team-up comments, Steinfeld would be game for that happening sooner rather than later. There is already a perfect opportunity for the franchise to do so. While a solid project for Steinfeld’s return to the MCU has yet to be announced, Pugh will next be seen in May’s Thunderbolts*.
Yelena is the main character of the team-up movie. With Steinfeld’s latest MCU appearance seeing Kate Bishop recruited by Ms. Marvel for the new team she is forming — a version of Marvel Comics’ Young Avengers — there is an easy way for Steinfeld’s wish of reuniting with Pugh in the MCU again to come true. Yelena Belova and the Thunderbolts have been confirmed as part of Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast. With Marvel officially revealing that more stars will be announced for the Avengers film, there is a chance that Kate and the Young Avengers could appear, reigniting the Yelena and Kate dynamic.
Our Take On Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop & Yelena Belova Team-Up Comments
The Heroes Share An Important Theme In The MCU
I couldn’t be more excited by Steinfeld’s MCU team-up comments. I thought Yelena and Kate had great chemistry in Hawkeye, and I want to see them become closer as the MCU moves beyond the Multiverse Saga. The two heroes share a similar theme, serving as successors of original Avengers members, with Kate as the new Hawkeye and Yelena as the new Black Widow. Seeing how their dynamic shifts as their roles in the MCU grow could be exciting, and I want them to have the same friendship their predecessors had when Kate Bishop and Yelena Belova team up again.
