Russell Crowe’s New Cold War Thriller Movie Adds Oscar-Nominated The Conjuring Star

Russell Crowe‘s new Cold War thriller adds a Conjuring star to its roster. Released in 2013, The Conjuring stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as a pair of paranormal investigators and demonologists in the 1970s, who came to the Perrons’ new farmhouse for a suspected supernatural presence. Loosely based on the real-life experiences of the Perron family, the movie sees the house’s macabre history surfacing following the investigation.

The Gladiator star has some exciting new projects on the horizon. He is set to reunite with The Land of Bad director, Will Eubank, in the upcoming period epic, The Last Druid, where Crowe will play a Celtic elder who seeks peace. In addition to that project, he will play Hermann Göring while starring opposite Rami Malek in the upcoming historical drama Nuremberg, written and directed by James Vanderbilt, which provides new insight into the Nuremberg Trials.

Vera Farmiga Stars As Russell Crowe’s Wife In The New Cold War Thriller

Adapted from David E. Hoffman’s nonfiction book of the same name and set to be directed by Amma Asante, the period drama Billion Dollar Spy tells the real-life story of Soviet electronics engineer Adolf Tolkachev, who risked his life to pᴀss along top-secret intelligence to the CIA. Crowe was cast in the role of Tolkachev, who persisted in pᴀssing along the information he acquired to the CIA despite the agency’s persistence. Tolkachev’s actions proved to be vital in changing the balance of power during the Cold War.

Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline‘s report, The Conjuring star Vera Farmiga has joined Billion Dollar Spy‘s all-star cast to play Natasha, Tolkachev’s wife. The previously announced cast includes Industry‘s Harry Lawtey, who will play the CIA agent, Tom Lenihan, who ᴀssisted Talkachev in his dangerous mission, and Strange Darling‘s Willa Fitzgerald as Tom’s wife, Natasha. Production is slated to begin soon on the upcoming adaptation.

Much like Crowe and her castmates, Farmiga is an accomplished actor who has appeared in many critically acclaimed and commercially successful movies, including Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winning The Departed, The Nun, and the 2009 Orphan. She received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air.

It seems that the upcoming Cold War movie is gearing up to feature an impressive roster. Meanwhile, movement on the project has been swift with Russell Crowe on board. Following the initial report of his attachment to the project, the new Cold War thriller was reportedly in pre-production, but Billion Dollar Spy is now reported to be entering production soon, although an exact date has not yet been confirmed.
