“Truly Worth The Wait”: How The Accountant 2 Is A “Different Experience” From Ben Affleck’s $155M Hit Explained By Returning Star

The Accountant 2 star Cynthia Addai-Robinson explained how the upcoming sequel will be different from the first film. The upcoming Accountant 2 is set years after the 2016 film and will follow Christian Wolff as he tries to figure out who killed Raymond King, played by J.K. Simmons. While she was the one who caught Christian in the first movie, Addai-Robinson’s character, Agent Medina, will work with him in the sequel. In addition to Addai-Robinson, the cast of the movie includes Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, and Daniella Pineda.

During an interview with ScreenRant, Addai-Robinson and Pineda discuss how The Accountant 2 is different from the first film. Addai-Robinson admits that she was surprised by the story when she read the script for the sequel but is confident the film will live up to the first film while also heightening everything. She also claims that The Accountant 2 has a slightly different tone, stressing that there is more humor in the sequel. Read her full comments below:

Addai-Robinson: I, like you, wondered when I returned for the sequel, I thought, “Okay, when we last saw Marybeth, JK, as Ray King, was sort of handing over the baton. She’s stepping into that role.” And then, when I read the script, without giving any spoilers away, I thought, “Oh, okay, this isn’t going to be quite what I thought for what Marybeth is going to experience.” But I just was very excited to get to revisit this character and this world again, because it just felt like there was more story to tell. You wanted to know, “Well, what does happen to these characters when you leave them in the first movie?” So, I think we have done what is very difficult to do, which is make a sequel that lives up to the original and heightens everything, elevates everything, and gives you even more. So, I’m really proud, and I’m very excited, because I feel like audiences who love the first one are really going to love the second one.

Pineda: People might be saying the second one might be pretty good.

Addai-Robinson: I wasn’t going to say better, because they’re different in what they’re doing, but for sure, there’s a different experience, I think, for the audience on the sequel. There’s humor, which we didn’t necessarily have as much of a humorous element in the first one. You have to have these bigger setpieces, in terms of action, new characters that also bring in an added element. So, I just think that the audience was chomping at the bit for a sequel, they had to wait almost nine years, and now they’re going to get something that’s truly worth the wait.

What Addai-Robinson’s Comments Mean For The Accountant 2

The Accountant 2 Will Include More Comedy & Action Than The First Movie

In the first movie, many of the main characters were working against each other. For example, Agent Medina is hunting down Christian Wolff, who is unknowingly working against his brother, Braxton. Even though they reunited at the end of The Accountant, the trailer for the sequel establishes that Christian and Braxton haven’t seen each other in years. Despite this, The Accountant 2 will bring Christian, Braxton, and Agent Medina together to solve the murder of Raymond King.

Addai-Robinson’s comments about the upcoming sequel are backed up by the trailer for The Accountant 2. It is clear that Christian, Braxton, and Agent Medina will have a lot of banter with each other while they work the case, which will add a lot of humor to the film. Additionally, some of the heightened action that Addai-Robinson mentioned can be seen in the trailer, such as when Christian and Braxton charge out of a seemingly abandoned building to take on a slew of enemies.

Our Take On Addai-Robinson’s Comments

The Accountant 2 Could Be Better Than The First Film

While Addai-Robinson didn’t want to claim that The Accountant 2 is better than the first film, the trailers and early reviews give me hope. It is not surprising that the sequel has more humor, since it has become more common to insert more comedy into action movies. Additionally, I am excited to hear that the movie will include bigger action set pieces. Therefore, while it is currently hard to say whether The Accountant 2 will be better than the first film, I think the added humor and more intense action will make it a more entertaining film.
