“We Want To Build Out A Whole Universe”: The Accountant Spinoff Outlined By Director, Including How Ben Affleck Factors In

The Accountant 2 director Gavin O’Connor revealed some key details about the unconfirmed spinoff TV series, which would expand the world of the franchise. The upcoming Accountant 2 will once again follow Ben Affleck’s Christian Wolff, who will team up with his brother, Braxton, and Agent Medina to figure out who murdered Raymond King. However, while the long-awaited sequel to the 2016 film was being developed, there were talks of a spinoff television series that would be set in the same world as The Accountant.

In an interview with ScreenRant ahead of the release of The Accountant 2, O’Connor reveals some important details about the spinoff show, which he still wants to make with writer Bill Dubuque. The director claims that the series wouldn’t have followed Affleck’s character, and instead would have centered around Justine (Alison Wright), the woman who helps Christian from the Harbor Neuroscience Insтιтute in the first film. O’Connor revealed that Justine would have other accountants that she’s working with in the series, revealing that Christian is not her only one. Read his full comments below:

That’s a great question, no one’s asked me that one. So, the series was never going to be with Ben. The series that Bill and I have been working on, and want to do eventually, is really about Justine and her and all the kids at Harbor Neuroscience, and how they operate there. The idea for the series is Justine has other accountants out in the world, Christian isn’t the only one. So, I’d probably bring Ben in for a cameo here and there. But that’s a whole separate world of accountants. We want to build out a whole universe of accountants. So nothing from the TV idea, in any way, was working its way into this movie.

What O’Connor’s Comments Mean For The Spinoff Show

The Accountant 2 Could Lead To Expanding The World

In the first film, Christian and Justine meet each other as children. Christian is an autistic person, and it is implied that Justine is as well. Justine does not speak in The Accountant, but types her responses to Christian into a computer, which allows her to communicate with him. As she is the one who helps Christian on most of his missions, Justine is a very important character in The Accountant, and will return in the upcoming sequel.

Following Justine and other accountants in a spinoff show would be a great way to expand the franchise. While Christian and Justine clearly have a great relationship in the movies, it is interesting to learn that he is not the only accountant that she helps. This spinoff series has not been officially announced, but if it ever does get made, it would be great to learn more about other accountants in the world and potentially have Affleck show up for a few episodes here and there.

Our Take On Gavin O’Conner’s Comments About The Accountant Spinoff TV Show

The Accountant’s Spinoff TV Show Could Be Great If It Does Get Made

The Accountant Justine with a worried expression

The Accountant isn’t a franchise that I would automatically think needs a TV show. However, if the upcoming sequel is a success, then it would make a lot of sense to expand the world of the series. Ahead of its release, reviews for The Accountant 2 have been very good. ScreenRant‘s own Graeme Guttmann gave the film 7 out of 10, and it currently has an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is significantly higher than the first movie. There’s a chance I may want a spinoff series after The Accountant 2 releases on April 25, 2025.
