Anthony Mackie Reveals His Dream Captain America & X-Men Team-Up For Avengers: Doomsday

Anthony Mackie opens up about the X-Men joining the Avengers: Doomsday cast and which character he hopes to team up with in the Marvel Cinematic Universe installment. The end of The Multiverse Saga is getting closer as Avengers: Doomsday is finally in production, following Marvel Studios’ surprise announcement in which numerous actors were revealed to be in the film. With multiple X-Men actors coming back to reprise their roles, it will give the MCU heroes a chance to team up with some of the most iconic Marvel characters of all time in Avengers: Doomsday.

ScreenRant’s own Joe Deckelmeier recently spoke with Macke for his new film, Sneaks, and asked the MCU veteran about Avengers: Doomsday, as that will be his next appearance in the franchise. When Mackie was asked about which X-Men character he’s most excited for his Captain America to be joining forces with, the Captain America: Brave New World star shared the following:

Anthony Mackie: Look, I am a big Cyclops fan. That’s my favorite X-Men. I have a Cyclops action figure on my key chain that I’ve had since high school. When I was in high school, the X-Men cartoon was really big, and this was before the movies. I’ve always been a huge Cyclops fan, and I’m really, really excited – hopefully, knock on wood – for them to be a part of it and come into it. [I’m excited] to hang out with Xavier and Beast and all those guys. But my favorite is Nightcrawler. If I can hang out with one character? Me and Nightcrawler in the French Quarter during Mardi Gras for two weeks, that’s what I do.

What Anthony Mackie’s X-Men Comments Mean

With the X-Men property being one of the most beloved in the whole superhero genre, it’s no surprise that Mackie is just as excited to have the mutants appear in Avengers: Doomsday as fans are, following their initial announcement. The road to getting the X-Men in the MCU has been a long one, and only became a reality the day that Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, which brought the character rights back to Marvel Studios. Not only are fans getting an X-Men reboot after Phase 6, but Avengers: Doomsday also gives them a chance to enjoy the 2000s era of the mutants alongside the Avengers.

Whether or not Mackie is getting to team up with the X-Men characters he mentioned in Avengers: Doomsday remains to be seen, as these were strictly his personal wishes without indicating whether that is actually happening. It’s also crucial to remember that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has teased that there are more Avengers: Doomsday casting announcements coming. That means there could easily be more X-Men characters from the original films popping up in Avengers: Doomsday.

Hearing how thrilled Mackie is to have the X-Men joining Avengers: Doomsday, it’s going to be a lot of fun to see how Sam works alongside the mutants, especially as he will be leading this new generation of Avengers. With all the secrets surrounding Avengers: Doomsday, and even Avengers: Secret Wars, time will tell what Marvel Studios has in store for the end of The Multiverse Saga. Hopefully, more details on how the X-Men fit into Avengers: Doomsday will start to emerge as filming continues.

Sneaks releases in theaters on April 18.
