Who Is Alex? A Minecraft Movie’s New Character, Video Game History, & Sequel Setup

Alex was introduced during the post-credits scene of A Minecraft Movie, and could be a major character in a potential sequel. In a sequel, Alex could join characters from A Minecraft Movie, such as Steve, Garrett, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn on a new adventure. While a sequel to A Minecraft Movie has not yet been officially announced, the mᴀssive box office success of the film suggests that it will be greenlit soon. If a sequel is confirmed, there is a lot of Minecraft lore that the follow-up film can pull from.

While reviews for A Minecraft Movie have been mixed, with Screen Rant’s own Mae Abdulbaki giving it a score of 4 out of 10, it has been a box office juggernaut and doesn’t seem like it will lose momentum anytime soon. In fact, A Minecraft Movie could potentially surpᴀss The Super Mario Bros. Movie as the highest-grossing video game film of all time. Whether it achieves this record or not, it is obvious that a sequel to the film is warranted, which is why it is great that Alex was introduced during the post-credits scene of A Minecraft Movie.

A Minecraft Movie’s Post-Credits Scene Introduces Alex

Steve Meets Alex In A Minecraft Movie’s Post-Credits Scene

At the end of A Minecraft Movie, Jack Black’s Steve makes the brave decision to leave the Overworld. Since he first came to the block-filled world to escape his mundane life in the real world, this decision was a mᴀssive moment for him. However, it would not be surprising if Steve returned to the Overworld in a potential sequel. This is even more likely since he meets Alex in the post-credits scene of A Minecraft Movie.

During the post-credits scene of A Minecraft Movie, Steve knocks on the door of his childhood home and is greeted by Alex. While she is only shown from behind, it is clear that this character resembles Alex from the Minecraft video game, suggesting she could be a major character in a sequel. In the scene, Steve asks Alex if she still has a chest that he left there, which seemingly has more items from the Overworld. Much to Steve’s delight, Alex reveals that she kept the chest and invites him inside.

Alex Is The Second Biggest Character In Minecraft

Alex Was Added To Minecraft In 2014

Since Steve was the default skin that Minecraft players used for years, it makes sense that he was one of the main characters in A Minecraft Movie. However, Alex was the second skin that Mojang added to the game, making her the second most popular character in Minecraft. While Steve has existed in the game ever since its initial release in 2009, Alex was added by Mojang in 2014 so that players would have more options for default skins. Now, there are actually a total of nine default player skins in Minecraft.

Since Minecraft isn’t a story-based game, Steve and Alex don’t necessarily have distinct personalities.

There may be many more default skins nowadays, but Steve and Alex are definitely the two most recognizable Minecraft characters. Because of this, her inclusion in the post-credits scene of A Minecraft Movie makes the most sense. Since Minecraft isn’t a story-based game, Steve and Alex don’t necessarily have distinct personalities. However, this hasn’t stopped longtime fans of the game from celebrating when Alex is introduced in A Minecraft Movie. Black ensured that Steve is hilarious in the first film, so Alex will likely also be a great character in a potential sequel.

How A Minecraft Movie’s Alex Compares To The Video Game

A Minecraft Movie’s Version Of Alex Looks Just Like The Video Game Skin

Steve and Alex, the default Minecraft skins, running out of a cave surrounded by enemies.

Since Alex doesn’t have a unique personality in Minecraft, it is difficult to compare the movie character to her video game counterpart. However, we can examine the appearances of the movie and video game characters, which are very similar. In A Minecraft Movie, Alex has red hair and is wearing a green shirt, which perfectly matches her appearance in the video game. In the film, Steve is dressed as he is in the video game, so it’s likely that Alex will also look just like she does in the game if she does appear again in a sequel.

In A Minecraft Movie, Alice May Connolly is the actress who stands in for Alex. However, she is voiced by Kate McKinnon, who is a former Saturday Night Live cast member and has also appeared in films such as Barbie, Office Christmas Party, and Ghostbusters. It’s likely that A Minecraft Movie’s post-credits scene doesn’t reveal Alex’s face so that the creative team didn’t have to commit to an actor. Given the success of A Minecraft Movie, a major actress will probably be cast in the role. Perhaps McKinnon will return for the sequel to play Alex.

What Alex’s Introduction Means For A Minecraft Movie’s Sequel

Alex Will Likely Be A Major Character In A Minecraft Movie 2

Since Minecraft is not a story-based game, a sequel could go in practically any direction. However, it seems like Alex’s introduction in the post-credits scene of A Minecraft Movie is setting up the potential story of the sequel. While Steve has just returned to the real world, he clearly has something stashed in his chest that he wants. More than likely, whatever he retrieves from his chest will lead to him embarking on a new adventure in the Overworld. Since Alex lets him into her home, she will probably be joining him on this adventure.

Steve inviting Alex to join him on his adventure would honor the history of the video game, since she was the second player added to Minecraft. In addition to Steve and Alex, it’s possible that characters like Garrett, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn will also return to the Overworld in A Minecraft Movie 2. Since the first film was just released, it is hard to predict what the story of the sequel will be, but fans have theorized that it will further involve the Nether and possibly feature the characters traveling to The End.

While the Nether was included in A Minecraft Movie, not much of the fiery dimension was shown in the film. Therefore, Steve, Alex, and the other characters could explore more areas of the Nether in A Minecraft Movie 2. Their discoveries could potentially lead to them accessing The End and fighting the Ender Dragon, which is considered the final boss of Minecraft’s Survival mode. No matter what the story of the sequel to A Minecraft Movie is, it is likely that Alex will be a major character in the film.
