Another Simple Favor Trailer: Blake Lively Is Released From Prison For A Glamorous & Twisted Italian Wedding

A new trailer for Another Simple Favor previews a close look at Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively’s reunion seven years later. The movie is a sequel to the 2018 Paul Feig movie A Simple Favor, which first introduced audiences to Kendrick’s character, Stephanie, a single mom vlogger who has to help solve a missing person case when her new friend Emily (Lively) goes missing. Another Simple Favor was announced in May 2022, and will finally come out this year on May 1 on Prime Video.

Now, Prime Video has dropped a new trailer for Another Simple Favor. The trailer opens by reminding audiences of what happened five years before, wherein Stephanie ended up sending Emily to prison. Emily returns unexpectedly, revealing that she is getting married and wants Stephanie to be her maid of honor. Stephanie and her friends decide to go to the wedding, despite Sean not thinking this is such a good idea. After heading overseas for this Italy-set destination wedding, Stephanie begins to expect that Emily is up to no good once more.

What This Means For Another Simple Favor

It Has To Explain Some Changes From The First Movie’s Shocking Ending

The trailer kicks off after A Simple Favor‘s twisty ending. Though Stephanie was originally on Emily’s side in the movie, as she helped start the search for her when she disappeared, it is later revealed that Lively’s character killed her twin sister and father. Though she goes to jail at the end of the first film, the character is roaming free in Another Simple Favor. Exactly how she evaded her 20-year prison sentence after just five years will be revealed more when the movie is released.

In addition to showing the basic plot of Another Simple Favor, the trailer unveils some of the new characters. Allison Janney will be added to the cast as Aunt Linda McLanden, an unexpected wedding guest. Alongside her is Elizabeth Perkins, who will play Margaret McLinden. Alex Newell also joins the cast to play Vicky, one of Stephanie’s friends, in their first feature film role since their 2023 Tony win for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. This new cast will add depth to the already star-studded ensemble.

Our Take On The Another Simple Favor Trailer

The Sequel Creates New Dynamics

The elapsed time allows for a more developed relationship between Emily and Stephanie. Stephanie is now aware of the nefarious things that Emily is capable of, making her more suspicious of Lively’s character from the get-go. Whereas the search for Emily and her suspected murder creates the intrigue in A Simple Favor, it is figuring out Emily’s motivations — and what might really be going on at the wedding — that drives the mystery of Another Simple Favor. This character-embedded mystery will create a unique dynamic between the two leads, as they are supported by a new ensemble.
