A first-look image has been revealed for Day Drinker. From Snow White director Marc Webb, this thriller stars Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz in their fourth movie together. Now, Lionsgate has revealed the first image for Day Drinker. The image is a solo look at Depp in his role in the film. He sports gray hair, including a beard and mustache, and wears a navy blue suit. He holds a drink in his hand and looks towards something off-screen. Check it out below:
What This Means For Day Drinker
Johnny Depp Looks Different From Usual
A fuller synopsis of the film clarifies that the bartender in Day Drinker works for a private yacht. This role is played by Cline, who interacts with a mysterious day-drinking guest, played by Depp. According to the synopsis, Cline and Depp’s characters soon find themselves wrapped up in some business pertaining to a criminal (Cruz), and find some unexpected connections between them. This first image does not show much of this yacht, only showing the corner of what could be a bar counter. It also does not reveal anymore about Cline or Cruz’s characters.
While Depp and Cruz will reunite for Day Drinker, this film looks a lot different from their previous collaboration. Playing everything from Jack Sparrow to Willy Wonka, Depp tends to be a chameleon, altering his physical look dramatically to fit whatever role he is in. In Murder on the Orient Express, his and Cruz’s most recent collaboration, Depp had a well-manicured, small mustache and brown hair. While his outfit is put together for Day Drinker, his wispy hair gives a slightly more disheveled appearance, setting this apart from his previous Cruz collaboration.
Our Take On The Day Drinker Image
Johnny Depp Makes A Return To Hollywood
Though he was once an A-list actor, Depp’s personal life scandals have pushed him out of mainstream cinema for the past couple of years. Working with Lionsgate on Day Drinker will mark his first studio movie since Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in 2018. As such, this movie will be an interesting opportunity to see whether Depp will sink or swim with audiences following his very public and highly discussed legal issues with Amber Heard. The first image for Day Drinker does give Depp an interesting character design, indicating a potentially strong film.
