After Kevin Feige’s Recent Avengers: Doomsday Comments, I’m Surprised About How Few Members Of One Marvel Team Are In The Cast

The Avengers: Doomsday cast includes several members from different Marvel teams, and I’m surprised one team has such few heroes after Kevin Feige’s recent comments. Doomsday is the next chapter in the Avengers franchise, but it isn’t comprised of the same characters audiences are familiar with. The film is a multiversal adventure, meaning many of its characters come from different universes, including X-Men characters like Ian McKellen’s Magneto, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, and Kelsey Grammer’s Beast.

The X-Men haven’t been introduced in the MCU, meaning these are variants and possibly the same versions from the Fox universe. After this announcement, many theorized that Doomsday would be an Avengers vs. X-Men film, fighting at the whim of Doctor Doom. However, Feige recently debunked this theory, stating that the film would include several Marvel teams joining together to fight Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom. While it’s exciting to see these teams unite, I’m certain that more Avengers will join the fight.

Kevin Feige Confirmed Multiple Marvel Teams Will Team Up To Fight Doctor Doom

The New Avengers Will Consist Of Several Marvel Teams

On March 26, Marvel announced the 27 cast members who will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. The lineup included several members from the X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and Wakanda, and some outliers, like Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Channing Tatum’s Gambit. These teams could conflict with each other in the film, but don’t expect that to last long. During CinemaCon 2025, Feige discussed Doomsday in a recorded video message with the audience, where he confirmed that these five teams would come together to fight Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom.

There are still many questions regarding how this will happen. The X-Men and The Fantastic Four come from different universes, meaning Doctor Doom will likely do something that puts the multiverse in peril, forcing these teams to unite. A portal could open that draws these teams together or the TVA may build its own version of the Avengers, bringing together the best heroes from the multiverse to save it. Whatever the case is, it’s still surprising how few characters are in the Avengers, especially when so many exist in the MCU.

Only 5 Avengers Are Officially In The Doomsday Cast

Many Of The Avengers Are Skipping This Battle

While the Avengers: Doomsday cast is large, the Avengers team within the roster is stunningly small. 14 cast members are characters from the main MCU timeline, and even fewer are in the Avengers. For the sake of this statistic, let’s place Bucky Barnes in the Thunderbolts since that’s his new team, and let’s separate the Wakandans from the Avengers since Feige named them separately. This means the only Avengers characters are Captain America, Thor, Ant-Man, Falcon, and Shang-Chi.

It’s likely that Shang-Chi is on the Avengers’ radar, and his rings could be an important MacGuffin in the film.

Out of these five characters, only two have been in the Avengers before. Danny Ramirez’s Falcon hasn’t officially joined the Avengers yet, but the ending of Captain America: Brave New World suggested he would likely join the team once Sam Wilson rebuilds it. Shang-Chi’s post-credit scene saw him speaking with Wong, Hulk, and Captain Marvel about the power of the ten rings. While none of them are in Avengers: Doomsday, it’s likely that Shang-Chi is on the Avengers’ radar, and his rings could be an important MacGuffin in the film.

I Expect More Avengers Will Be Announced Soon

Feige Confirmed That The Full Doomsday Cast Hasn’t Been Revealed

During his video message, Feige also stated that the full Avengers: Doomsday cast hasn’t been announced yet, saying, “We revealed many, not all. I expect most of the remaining characters are from the MCU, and many of them will likely be Avengers. I don’t think Spider-Man will make an appearance since Spider-Man: Brand New Day premieres only a few months after. However, there are still several other Avengers who could play an important role.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ended with Doctor Strange going with Charlize Theron’s Clea to fix an incursion. Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel are also searching for Monica Rambeau, who is trapped in an alternate universe with Beast after The Marvels. Several other Avengers are still alive and well on Earth, including Hulk, Wong, and Star-Lord. There are also several TV characters who could show up, like She-Hulk, Moon Knight, Ironheart, and Wonder Man. The MCU is mᴀssive, and there are plenty more characters who could join the Avengers in Avengers: Doomsday.
