The Nether In A Minecraft Movie Explained: How It Compares To The Video Game

The Nether is a very important dimension in the Minecraft video game, but not many details are revealed about it in A Minecraft Movie. After exploring the Overworld and creating unique builds, which reflects the experience of someone playing Survival mode in the popular video game, Jack Black’s Steve eventually discovers that he can access a different dimension. While the Nether is very important to the story of A Minecraft Movie, since it is where the main villain of the film comes from, not much is actually revealed about the dark, scary dimension.

While the film has been a huge box office success, in Screen Rant’s review of A Minecraft Movie, Mae Abdulbaki described the story as “shallow.” This explains why practically nothing is known about the Nether dimension by the end of A Minecraft Movie. However, after the mᴀssive success of the film, it seems like a sequel to A Minecraft Movie is a guarantee, which means that the Nether could be further explored in a future movie. Because of this, it is important to overview important details about the Nether dimension that are not revealed in A Minecraft Movie.

The Nether Is Another Dimension Connected To Overworld

The Nether Is Much Scarier & More Dangerous Than The Overworld

In A Minecraft Movie, Steve discovers an unfinished portal in the Overworld that is made of blocks of obsidian. To activate this portal, he lights it on fire using flint and steel, which has become one of the most viral moments from A Minecraft Movie. After walking through the mysterious purple portal, Steve discovers the Nether dimension, which looks similar to common depictions of Hell and is full of fire and lava. The Nether is a dangerous dimension that players can explore in the Minecraft video game, and is where several valuable items can be found.

In the movie, Steve immediately encounters an army of zombified piglins, who are led by Malgosha, the primary villain of A Minecraft Movie. While Steve immediately encounters this army upon entering the Nether, in the video game, it is much more common for players’ portals to lead them to a more remote location in the Nether. In the game, players have to watch out for the Nether’s most dangerous creatures, such as skeletons, ghasts, and the aforementioned zombified piglins, while exploring the grim terrain.

Malgosha Rules Over The Piglins In The Nether

Even though it is very dangerous, the Nether is a fascinating dimension to explore in the video game. However, unfortunately, Steve is never shown properly exploring the Nether in A Minecraft Movie. Instead of naturally stumbling upon the zombified piglin base, Steve’s Nether portal immediately transports him inside of it, where he meets Malgosha. When telling Garrett, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn about Malgosha, Steve reveals that the sorceress was once a dancer who was laughed at during a talent show, and has since sworn to never be creative again.

Malgosha sends her army of zombified piglins to the Overworld to obtain the Orb of Dominance, which will allow her to end all creativity and bring darkness to the Overworld.

Years after this traumatic experience, Malgosha now leads all the zombified piglins in the Nether, making her a major threat to Steve and the other characters in A Minecraft Movie. In the film, Malgosha sends her army of zombified piglins to the Overworld to obtain the Orb of Dominance, which will allow her to end all creativity and bring darkness to the Overworld. However, at the end of A Minecraft Movie, Malgosha and her zombified piglins are defeated by Steve, Garrett, Henry, Natalie, Dawn, and their army of iron golems.

How A Minecraft Movie’s Version Of The Nether Looks Compared To The Game

The Nether In A Minecraft Movie Looks Very Similar To The Game

Even though not much is shown of the Nether dimension in A Minecraft Movie, it definitely looks very similar to the video game. Most of the surface of the Nether is made up of netherrack, a dark red block that is also clearly seen in A Minecraft Movie. Furthermore, Malgosha’s base is made of Nether brick, which is what fortresses in the Nether are made of in the video game. Because of this, Malgosha’s base looks a lot like Nether Fortresses, which are mᴀssive structures that players can explore in the video game.

Additionally, it is clear that A Minecraft Movie’s version of the Nether is a fiery wasteland that is full of lava, just like it is in the video game. Therefore, while Steve isn’t shown exploring areas of the Nether that aren’t under Malgosha’s rule, the dimension in the movie definitely looks very similar to its video game counterpart. This is good, since the Nether is an extremely important dimension in the game, meaning it could be further explored in a potential sequel to A Minecraft Movie.

A Minecraft Movie Only Shows A Small Part Of The Nether

There Is Much More To Discover In The Nether

Considering how many things a player can find in the Nether, I would be shocked if A Minecraft Movie 2 doesn’t further explore the dimension. While only one Nether biome is shown in A Minecraft Movie, there are actually four other biomes that can be found in the dimension. In addition to the Nether Wastes, which is the biome that Malgosha’s base resides in, players can also explore the Crimson Forest, Warped Forest, Soul Sand Valley, and Basalt Deltas. These are each unique biomes in the Nether that add even more personality and variety to the dimension.

There are also many other Nether mobs which are not included in A Minecraft Movie. Most notably, the Nether is where video game players can face off against Wither skeletons and blazes. Both of these enemies can be found in Nether Fortresses, and drop items that are important if players want to face bosses like the Ender Dragon and the Wither. Neither of these bosses are featured in A Minecraft Movie, but could potentially be significant enemies in a sequel to the film.

The Nether is a very important dimension in the video game since a player needs to explore it to reach The End, another dimension in Minecraft. It is unknown if Black’s version of Steve made it to The End, but this is where players fight the Ender Dragon. Therefore, in addition to showing more of the Nether, a sequel to A Minecraft Movie could also feature The End, which is another eerie dimension. Overall, while only a small part of the Nether is shown in A Minecraft Movie, it is undeniably a very important dimension in the video game.
