A Working Man Is Better Positioned To Be A Franchise Than Jason Statham’s $162 Million Action Movie

A Working Man is the latest Jason Statham action project, his first film after the success he found with last year’s The Beekeeper. A Working Man is also Statham’s latest collaboration with classic action star Sylvester Stallone, who helped pen the screenplay alongside director David Ayer, based on a novel called Levon’s Trade, written by Chuck Dixon. While A Working Man‘s reviews were relatively tame, the movie was never meant to be a critical darling and has become a solid enough success for the veteran actor after only two weeks in theaters.

Statham’s career has had its ups and downs, but he has been on a solid streak for a while that could continue if he takes on more roles like those in A Working Man and The Beekeeper. Statham has taken on starring roles in several franchises, with his biggest being the Fast and Furious series. Now, A Working Man could potentially be his newest franchise.

Chuck Dixon’s Levon Cade Novels Give A Working Man Several Jason Statham Sequel Ideas

There Are Already Multiple Directions A Sequel Could Go

As A Working Man was based on a book, the basic outline of the story was already there before writing began, and the film managed to adapt Levon’s Trade well enough despite some changes. However, that novel is just the first in a very long series, which currently consists of 11 total books that cover a very wide variety of stories. They are all centered around the protagonist, Levon Cade, played by Statham in the movie.

With that much content to work with, and with the fact that A Working Man has been set up to become a big success, making sequels to the movie seems like it would be a no-brainer. Having 10 other Levon Cade books to look at for inspiration, whether to directly adapt or simply to take ideas from and use in a more original work, means that pulling off a sequel should be relatively easy.

The Levon Cade Books Make It Easier To Do A Working Man Sequels Than The Beekeeper

The Beekeeper Sequel Would Have Nothing To Adapt From

While The Beekeeper was a pretty huge success, and its box office will probably not be surpᴀssed by that of A Working Man, sequels to that film would be a lot more of a gamble. The Beekeeper was wholly original, and while a sequel could work, the film works just fine as a standalone story.

A Working Man‘s sequels, on the other hand, could be much easier to make given the structure of the books. Additionally, they would already have a built-in audience – those who were already fans of the source material.
