Half a decade after The Angry Birds Movie 2 debuted in theaters, The Angry Birds Movie 3 has been announced with several original cast members set to return. The franchise began in 2009 with the launch of the original Angry Birds mobile game, developed by Rovio to capitalize on the rise of smartphone gaming. The concept of the franchise is rather simple, and the puzzle action game typically involves the user launching the тιтular disgruntled avians at various structures built by green pigs who stole the birds’ eggs. Through subsequent games and other media, the lore also grew.

Naturally, it didn’t take long for the overnight success of Angry Birds to spill over into other forms of media, and a series of webtoons launched the film and TV wing of the expanding franchise. In 2016, a film was released, and The Angry Birds Movie was a sure-fire box office hit. The sequel fared much better critically but performed poorly at the box office, and plans for a threequel were never announced. The Threequel Sets A Release Date & Adds Cast Members

Coming nearly a year after the project was formally announced, the latest news confirms the release date for The Angry Birds Movie 3. The update came courtesy of a new poster shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the official Angry Birds Movie 3 account, which reveals the film is “flying into theatres in 2027!” It was later confirmed that the threequel lands on January 29, 2027, to be more precise.

The poster also revealed a slew of new voice actors who will appear in the film, including I Think You Should Leave star Tim Robinson and Keke Palmer (One of Them Days). Comedian Nikki Glaser will be joined by Wednesday‘s Emma Myers and Lily James (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again). Other new additions include Anna Cathcart (XO, Kitty), Sam Richardson (Detroiters), Walker Scobell (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (Never Have I Ever). Finally, SNL cast members Marcello Hernández and James Austin Johnson will appear, as will Kim Kardashian’s son, Psalm West.

Along with a myriad of new actors, it has also been confirmed that a few Angry Birds Movie alums will also be joining the sequel. Alongside Josh Gad and Jason Sudeikis, who were already announced, it has also been revealed that Danny McBride will be returning as the particularly volatile bird, Bomb. Meanwhile, Rachel Bloom will be back in her Angry Birds Movie 2 role, Silver.

However, it wouldn’t be until nearly a year later that Paramount finally put the much-anticipated animated sequel on the release schedule. Eschewing the summer releases of the previous two films, The Angry Birds Movie 3 will instead release in the heart of winter on January 29, 2027. This decision is somewhat vexing, since the early weeks of the year are typically a slow period for cinema. However, it could be that the threequel will face considerably less compeтιтion.

Sudeikis & Gad Return To Reprise Their Roles

When The Angry Birds Movie 3 was first revealed in mid-2024, the announcement also came with exciting news regarding the returning cast. Where Does The Video Game Movie Series Go Next?

The ending of The Angry Birds Movie 2 was anything but conclusive and set up another egg-snatching plot for the threequel. Though it hasn’t been confirmed yet, The Angry Birds Movie 3 will likely involve Red and his friends embarking on another adventure to rescue the eggs, but it will need to introduce other wrinkles to keep from being a stale rehash of the 2016 film. There has to be more to the story than simple egg thievery, and it smacks of some larger conspiracy that threatens the sancтιтy of Bird Island.

The threequel also has the chance to build upon the character development Red went through in the first two movies and finally pay off his arc. Red began as an angry young man, and though he was a hero by the conclusion of the first movie, the sequel showed he still craved validation from external sources. The Angry Birds Movie 3 could reveal a self-actualized version of Red who could be a father if his relationship with Silver carries over from the last movie.
