Fast & Furious 11 is expected to be the final movie in the main saga of the highly successful action franchise, but that doesn’t mean it has to be the end of the story altogether. There are several ways that the Fast and Furious series could reinvent itself for the future, and one of the most obvious methods would be introducing a new cast of characters to replace Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and his crew. Thankfully, the franchise has already made important preparations before the current Fast Saga comes to an end.
The upcoming Fast and Furious 11 will once again see Vin Diesel’s protagonist face off against Jason Momoa’s Dante Reyes, the son of Fast and Furious 6’s Brazilian crime lord Hernan Reyes. The new antagonist quickly cemented himself as one of Fast and Furious‘ best villains, with Momoa’s eccentric performance meshing perfectly with the increasingly cartoonish tone of the series. However, this rivalry can’t last forever, and after 11 movies, Dom’s story must come to an end eventually. That said, there’s already another character ready to take his place.
Dominic Toretto Mentors His Cousin Tony In Fast & Furious: Spy Racers
The Fast And Furious Franchise Includes A TV Show
While many Fast and Furious fans may not even be aware of Spy Racers, the animated show is an interesting addition to the franchise with a lot of new characters and fun storylines that made the Toretto family tree even bigger. The main character is Tony Toretto, the younger cousin of Vin Diesel’s Dom, who aspires to be as successful as his older family member. While Tony’s missions have been primarily self-contained and don’t usually connect to the movies, there have been a handful of interesting tie-ins in the most recent seasons.
Vin Diesel even made some guest appearances on the show as Dom Toretto helped mentor Tony and even recommended him to Ms. Nowhere. Whether this could lead to the introduction of Tony Toretto in the Fast and Furious movies is difficult to say, but if were to happen, the show has laid the groundwork for the character to make the transition from cartoon to live-action.
Tony Toretto Could Succeed Vin Diesel’s Character After Fast & Furious 11
Dom Needs Somebody To Carry The Torch
Of course, it’s unlikely that Fast & Furious 11 would include direct references to Spy Racers since general audiences haven’t necessarily been watching the show, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be subtle connections. It’s already been established in the movies that Dom has a large family, many of whom haven’t been shown on-screen yet – so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to introduce a younger cousin who’s also interested in racing. John Cena’s Jakob Toretto didn’t even exist until F9 after all.
Fast & Furious 11 could even reinvent a new version of the character, not necessarily the one from Spy Racers, who fits more neatly into the storyline of the movies. It’s never been explicitly stated that Spy Racers is strictly canon to the franchise, so there’s plenty of creative liberty that could be taken with Tony’s introduction. Spy Racers introduced plenty of bizarre elements to the franchise that may not work as effectively in live-action, so perhaps it’s a smarter idea for Fast & Furious 11 to change Tony’s character slightly and make him more accessible to those viewers who don’t know him.
Fast & Furious Should Introduce A New Generation Of Characters After Fast 11
The Series Likely Won’t End After The Next Sequel
Even if Fast & Furious 11 wraps up the main saga as expected, that doesn’t mean that it has to be the end of the franchise altogether. The property is too big and too commercially successful to simply end, so it’s much more likely that the franchise will figure out a way to keep Fast and Furious alive even without Vin Diesel and the original cast whenever comes to it. And while Spy Racers has some fun characters, the animated show doesn’t have the general appeal that the big-budget blockbusters do.
This seems like the safest route forward for the saga, even if it requires a soft reboot after Fast & Furious 11.
However, bringing these two ideas together could be the key to keeping the Fast and Furious series alive. Fun characters that long-time fans of the franchise already know and action-packed live-action movies that can make money at the box office. This seems like the safest route forward for the saga, even if it requires a soft reboot after x.
