Nonnas Trailer: Vince Vaughn & A Group Of Italian Grandmothers Open A Restaurant In Netflix Comedy Movie Based On A True Story

Nonnas‘ first trailer offers a look at Vince Vaughn’s new comedy. Based on a true story, the Netflix movie sees Joe Scaravella (Vaughn) opening an Italian restaurant following the loss of his mother. Surrounded by a group of Italian grandmothers, who are chefs at his new restaurant, the upcoming comedy tells a heartfelt story about family, friendship, and food.

Netflix has now unveiled the trailer for Nonnas, giving a first look at Vaughn’s character, who turns to food for comfort and solace after a loss. In the trailer, he brings a group of Italian grandmothers together to share their family recipes with the neighborhood. Set to arrive on May 5, the Netflix comedy’s all-star cast features Linda Cardellini as Olivia, Joe Manganiello as Joe’s best friend Bruno, alongside Lorraine Bracco, Brenda Vaccaro, Talia Shire, and Susan Sarandon. Check out the trailer below:

What This Means For Nonnas

Nonnas Is Made By Family About Family

Nonnas is as much about food as it is a movie about family and culture. In an interview, Vaughn revealed that the idea of love and culture being pᴀssed down from the sharing of food and get-togethers is what drew him to the project in the first place. While the movie tackles the family theme on-screen, it also shares a behind-the-scenes connection with a real-life family, being made by the married filmmaking duo, Stephen Chbosky and Liz Maccie, who unintentionally made Nonnas a family project.

The movie is based on the true story of Jody Scaravella, who quit his day job to open Enoteca Maria in 2007, an Italian restaurant on Staten Island, known for its signature Italian grandmothers’ cooking. However, the trailer makes it clear that the nonnas are the true stars in the upcoming comedy on Netflix. The early glimpses already show that the grandmothers are sᴀssy, funny, and unapologetic, in addition to being talented at cooking.

Just as food brings comfort to people, Nonnas seeks to do the same, but with witty storylines and heartwarming relationships. Joe’s dream of starting a restaurant will face many obstacles. Nevertheless, as he brings those around him onto his ambitious project, he not only brings those in his neighborhood together through the sharing of food, but the restaurant also serves as a connection between Joe and the Italian community. Inspired by a true story, Nonnas is taking viewers on an emotional journey that’s bound to bring tears to their eyes while taking a deep dive into the vibrant Italian culture.
