The Batman 2 Gets Worrying Update From DC Movie Star: “We All Waiting To Hear”

The Batman 2‘s latest update is not the positive one fans had been hoping for. The first movie in director Matt Reeves’ The Batman franchise was released in 2022. Due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes that postponed several movies and TV shows, as well as behind-the-scenes issues, The Batman 2 has been delayed twice. The film is now set to arrive in October 2027, though Robert Pattinson’s recent Dune 3 casting reports have led to speculation that the anticipated DC movie could take longer to release. An update from an expected The Batman 2 cast member adds to the confusion.

Speaking with Inverse, Jayme Lawson, who played Bella Reál in The Batman, has revealed that the cast has not heard anything concrete about The Batman 2.

While Lawson said that she would love to share some insight on what is going on with The Batman sequel, the cast is still “waiting to hear about [The] Batman 2.” The movie was expected to start shooting towards the end of the year, but with Pattinson reportedly joining Dune 3, it seems like the film could wait for its Bruce Wayne star and enter production only in 2026.

What Jayme Lawson’s The Batman 2 Update Means

The DC Movie’s Saga To Start Filming Continues

While the projects in James Gunn’s DC Universe continue to move forward, having both films and TV shows in production, the story is different for the Elseworlds Batman franchise. Pattinson’s second film as the Dark Knight was originally meant to be released this year, which would have seen 2025 become the first year with live-action movies for Batman and Superman. Based on Lawson’s update on The Batman 2, it seems like there is still no significant movement behind the scenes to get the project before cameras as soon as possible.

Pattinson and other actors from the franchise have talked about how they do not know what The Batman 2 will be about. That comes from Matt Reeves having yet to turn in the complete script, as he has only delivered portions of the story to DC Studios co-CEOs Gunn and Peter Safran so far. In February, Pattinson claimed The Batman 2 would start filming at the end of 2025. However, with the actor reportedly joining Dune 3 and Lawson’s comment on how the cast of the DC franchise is in the dark, that seems unlikely to happen.

Our Take On Jayme Lawson’s The Batman 2 Update

Pattinson’s Dark Knight Return Needs Some Positive News Soon

I think Lawson’s The Batman 2 comments are part of a frustrating trend. Whenever we get positive news, like Pattinson saying a couple of months ago that the DC project would start filming towards the end of the year, we soon get a negative update again. At this point, I’m starting to feel like The Batman 2 could end up being delayed again, though a 2026 filming start could still allow it to make the October 2027 release date if the movie really starts filming next year. However, with the cast in the dark, The Batman 2 feels far away.
