Jensen Ackles becomes the DC Universe’s version of Batman in realistic new art. The actor has commented on how he would love to play the Dark Knight in live-action after voicing him in DC’s animated Tomorrowverse continuity. Batman’s The Brave and the Bold movie does not have a release date for now, but it is expected to be the project where he will make his live-action debut after joining the DCU’s Chapter One in animated form in Creature Commandos. With multiple names rumored for the role in the franchise, Ackles has emerged as one of the most popular candidates.
On Instagram, @esheffects imagined what Jensen Ackles could look like as the DCU Batman.
The fan art sees Ackles don an armored Batsuit that feels like a mix between Robert Pattinson’s costume from The Batman and the Dark Knight’s classic look from DC Comics. James Gunn has commented on how the DCU’s Batman will only be cast once there is a finished script for the film. While Gunn is working closely with the writer of The Brave and the Bold, which DC is keeping secret for now, the upcoming DCU movie is still a ways out.
Should Jensen Ackles Be The DCU’s Batman?
The Actor Has The Necessary Experience For Bruce Wayne
Ackles is not the only actor who has become a popular name to play the DCU’s Batman. Between casting rumors and names that have become fan-favorites are stars like Jake Gyllenhaal, Reacher‘s Alan Ritchson, 1923‘s Brandon Sklenar, and more. However, Ackles has something that no other actor on the list has, and that is the fact that he has already played Batman. The actor voiced the character in multiple movies set in DC’s animated Tomorrowverse, leading two Batman films and being part of a full-fledged Justice League.
Since the Tomorrowverse’s Supergirl actress, Meg Donnelly, went as far as being the runner-up for the DCU’s Kara Zor-El — she lost the role to Milly Alcock after screen testing — Ackles might at the very least be given the chance to audition for Batman. The DCU will use the same actors to play their characters in live-action and animation, so Ackles already has the skills needed to make sure Batman works in both mediums. The actor’s live-action roles in Supernatural and The Boys also show he has what it takes to play the dark superhero and playboy billionaire sides of Batman.
Our Take On Whether Jensen Ackles Should Be The DCU’s Batman
The Only Problem With The Casting Would Be Batman’s Age
The DCU’s Superman actor, David Corenswet, is 31. Gunn has said that Batman could be a few years older than Superman in the DCU, but at 47, I fear Ackles might be too old for the heroes to match. That said, I think he would not only be perfect as Bruce Wayne, but his age could help get all the Bat-Family into the DCU. Ackles has proven he has the skills to make the Dark Knight a DCU fan-favorite, and I love his animated take on Bruce Wayne. However, his chances depend on the age of the DCU’s Batman.
