“I Was In Trouble”: Superman Actress Isabela Merced Recalls When She Accidentally Leaked The New Superman S Logo From James Gunn’s DC Movie

Hawkgirl actress Isabela Merced looks back at when she mistakenly revealed a big Superman spoiler from the DC Universe installment. As the DCU timeline is getting ready to kick into overdrive this summer with James Gunn’s Superman movie, there are still a lot of plot details being kept under wraps. However, it turns out one detail was revealed way too early, according to one of the Superman cast members.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Merced was asked about her upcoming gig as Hawkgirl in the Superman movie. However, the DCU actress wanted to remain careful about sharing details, as she brought up how she accidentally spoiled something major from the film back when filming was getting started. Merced reflected on how she got in trouble by accidentally sharing the new S logo for the DCU’s Superman, sharing the following story:

I wasn’t even looking at anything else. I just saw my name and then I saw ‘Hawkgirl, Isabela.’ I was like, ‘F— yeah! I’m going to share this, put it on my [Instagram] Story.’ I get four calls. I was watching a movie, I think, so I didn’t answer. I was just like, ‘It’s my time.’ Then I finally look at my phone and they’re like, ‘You just revealed the Superman S!’ I go back to my story and I’m like, ‘This wasn’t a stock image?!’ I was drawing that [S] since middle school. It was only up for one hour…I was in trouble. But yeah, it’s fine. Innocent mistake.

What Isabela Merced’s Superman Story Means For The DCU

While it was definitely a simple error on Merced’s part, it’s also understandable why DC Studios probably panicked the way they did about the logo coming out. For general audience members, who may not be following the deeper DC Comics lore, the Superman S logo from Gunn’s movie may just be a regular symbol to them, as it’s clear that it’s related to the Man of Steel. However, getting that S logo revealed to long-time comic book fans, has a bigger meaning, as they know it’s a crucial deal that Clark Kent’s costume has this particular version of his shield.

With the DCU franchise adapting the Superman logo that was used in the Kingdom Come comic, it raised a lot of questions about what this means for David Corenswet’s Superman. It is perhaps possible it was just too early for DC Studios when Merced initially shared her post, especially if there were already marketing plans in place. But in the end, there are still very few details known about why the Kingdom Come design is being used for the DCU, so perhaps that will be a plot point actually addressed in the Superman movie.

Our Take On Isabela Merced’s Superman Story

Krypto brings Kal-El to the Fortress of Solitude in the Superman Movie

From everything Merced shared about getting the Superman logo out there prematurely, it’s still a fun aspect, as there are always at least a few things leaked or spoiled in advance for most superhero movies. In the end, there are still many layers to the Superman film that they have still been able to keep a secret, allowing audience members to experience it firsthand when they see the movie this summer. With only a few more months left to go before Superman flies into theaters, time will tell what else they have in store.
