After watching the new Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning trailer on repeat, I can’t believe that it may be the last one we ever see. Paramount continued the marketing campaign for the eighth installment in Tom Cruise’s franchise on April 7, 2025, by giving the world lots of new footage. Almost five months after the initial teaser trailer, I was delighted to see Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning‘s full trailer finally be released. It did an excellent job of generating even more hype for the film, as well as celebration for the franchise overall.
The Mission: Impossible movies have always had an excellent track record with releasing stunning trailers. They are always events I look forward to as it means new glimpses at Tom Cruise’s death-defying stunts. That’s no different with The Final Reckoning. Beyond the initial awe that the trailer delivers, dissecting everything Ethan Hunt sees in The Enтιтy’s visions and coming up with new theories from what else was shown made the trailer a real treat. It was only afterward that a harsh realization came to me that put The Final Reckoning‘s trailer in an entirely new light.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’s Official Trailer Is Likely The Last Proper Trailer Paramount Will Release
The Movie Is Coming Out Soon
There is a real possibility that we’ve seen the last Mission: Impossible trailer ever, thanks to The Final Reckoning‘s new one. Paramount decided to release the official trailer on April 7, 2025, which is just about a month and a half before the film’s official release. This footage is meant to prepare audiences for the next big theatrical experience. People will even start to see it a bit sooner now that Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is premiering at the Cannes Film Festival.
With less than two months to go before The Final Reckoning hits theaters, Paramount is reaching the final stages of the film’s marketing campaign. The studio will certainly release TV spots, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and other promotional materials in the coming weeks. However, it is unlikely that another proper trailer will be released. Paramount already spent big to have a Super Bowl spot for The Final Reckoning, so the official trailer should be the beginning of the end of the film’s final push.
It’s also worth noting that Paramount does not typically do more trailers for Mission: Impossible movies after the official trailer. For example, Mission: Impossible – Fallout had the same teaser trailer, Super Bowl spot, and official trailer marketing strategy as The Final Reckoning. Mission: Impossible – ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Reckoning did get a teaser trailer, official trailer, and final trailer, but that was a unique case. The movie’s extensive delays made the film’s prolonged marketing campaign necessary. It also didn’t get a Super Bowl spot. Traditionally, the official trailer is the last one for Mission: Impossible films.
There Will Be No More Mission: Impossible Trailers If The Final Reckoning Ends The Franchise
The Need For Future Promotion Will Not Exist
Not only have we surely seen the last of The Final Reckoning‘s trailers, but the film’s potential to conclude the franchise also has bigger repercussions. It’s been reported that the series could end after eight films led by Tom Cruise, with early reports about Mission: Impossible 7 & 8‘s development hinting at the star’s possible exit. Paramount has played into those reports with how The Final Reckoning has been marketed. Ethan’s “one last time” quote that ended both trailers and the тιтle all point to this being the end.
If that is the case, then we have just seen the last Mission: Impossible trailer. Paramount will have nothing else to market if there is not a ninth film or a potential reboot. That’s sad for me to think about. The Mission: Impossible movies have been a favorite of mine for a long time, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the experience of just seeing each new trailer as they arrived. That continued with The Final Reckoning‘s official trailer. The possibility that this is the last one we’ll ever see is a bit heartbreaking. I’ll miss seeing these trailers every few years.
Even If More Mission: Impossible Movies Happen, The Final Reckoning’s Trailer Could Still End An Era
Ethan Hunt’s Time May Be Over
When talking about Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning ending the franchise, there’s the unavoidable truth that it’s a mᴀssively successful piece of IP for Paramount. Tom Cruise may be ready and willing to step away from playing Ethan Hunt, but the studio may not be as ready for a multi-billion franchise to evaporate. There’s a good chance that another Mission: Impossible movie will happen at some point. This could even include rebooting the franchise or finding a way for the current canon to continue without Ethan Hunt.
If this is the last Mission: Impossible trailer featuring Tom Cruise, it is one fantastic way for this era to end
In that instance, more Mission: Impossible movie trailers could still have a notable difference. They may not have Tom Cruise. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning‘s trailer would still mark an end of an era in that regard. We could see another Mission: Impossible trailer several years from now, but it could be the first one not to include Cruise depending on how the franchise returns after the eighth installment. If this is the last Mission: Impossible trailer featuring Tom Cruise, it is one fantastic way for this era to end.
