Psych 4 is the next Peacock movie spinoff of the 2006–2014 series, and will reveal what’s in store next for Shawn and Gus. Debuting on the USA Network in 2006 before moving to NBC, Psych focuses on crime consultants Shawn Spencer (James Roday Rodriguez) and Burton “Gus” Guster (Dulé Hill), who somehow manage to solve a variety of cases by relying on Spencer’s incredible observational skills and Gus’s above-average intelligence and inability to say no to Shawn’s ridiculous suggestions. With its mix of humor and procedural elements, Psych is fondly remembered as an Aughts TV classic.
Everything from Shawn’s endless nicknames for Gus to the chemistry between Rodriguez, Hill, and the rest of the cast ensured the crime comedy-drama endured long after the final episode in 2014. After a few years away, the dynamic duo returned for a series of TV movies produced exclusively for Peacock. The nostalgic romps have not only told compelling stories, but also advanced the characters in the same way an ongoing TV series would. 2021’s This is Gus delivered all that in abundance, and demand for Psych 4 has only grown over the ensuing years.

James Roday Rodriguez Explains Psych 4’s Delays
With the script completed and the actors onboard, Psych 4 seems like a home run opportunity.
With years sliding by since the release of the last film in the series, the latest news finds star James Roday Rodriguez explaining why Psych 4 hasn’t happened yet. While speaking with TV Line, the actor and writer didn’t hold by when pinning the blame squarely on Peacock. “Our creative team is ready and have been ready,” said Rodriguez, before adding “it takes two to tango.” He then went on to encourage fans to put pressure on Peacock to get the project green-lit.

Our creative team is ready and have been ready but, unfortunately, it takes two to tango. If the fans really want to make some noise, they should direct their energy towards the Cock.
What is left out of the conversation is why Peacock hasn’t ordered a fourth film yet. The streamer isn’t averse to creating original content, and there was no indication that Psych 3: This is Gus was a failure. With the script completed and the actors onboard, Psych 4 seems like a home run opportunity. However, there may be some behind-the-scenes issues that could be keeping the fourquel from moving forward.
Psych 4 Was In Development (But Isn’t Confirmed)
The Project Was Announced In 2022
Psych 4 is confirmed, with early reports and rumors around the development of the next Psych movie circulating from early 2022. What’s been difficult to pin down are concrete specifics, though there are multiple reasons why this is, as explained by star James Roday Rodriguez in May 2023:
“The only reason that Psych 4 didn’t happen [in 2022] was scheduling. It was all lined up, and we would’ve made an announcement, but then we just couldn’t pull it together in time with everybody going off to do [other projects]. So, now we just kind of have to regroup, wait for Peacock to decide that they want to pay for it again, and hopefully we’ll be good.”
Whatever plans were in place back in 2022 have fallen through, and several years have gone by without any concrete updates. Rodriguez spoke up once again in April 2025, saying that the script is completed, and he is ready to return for the sequel. However, Rodriguez made it clear that Peacock has been dragging their feet and that fans should pressure the streamer to move forward with Psych 4. Fortunately, the movie could happen at any point, and with the creative bits out of the way, all it takes is a green light.
Psych 3: This Is Gus premiered on November 18, 2021.

The Dynamic Duo Of Shawn & Gus Will Return
There are two names guaranteed to return to the cast of Psych 4, and no new Psych movie would be complete without James Roday Rodriguez as hyper-observant detective and fake psychic Shawn Spencer. Rodriguez will be joined by Dulé Hill as Gus, Shawn’s initially unwilling partner who has been with him through all 8 seasons and 3 movies of Psych. The rest of the cast of Psych 4 will be unclear until more about the movie is known. Many Psych cast members have returned for the first three Psych movies, and it’s safe to ᴀssume that the same will be the case in the next one.
Kirsten Nelson will likely reprise her role as Chief Karen Vick, for example, and Timothy Omundson feels like a safe bet as he’s played Carlton Lᴀssiter in every Psych project and has spoken candidly about the status of Psych 4. Jazmyn Simon will also presumably be back as Selene, since she married Gus in Psych 3: This Is Gus.

A Brand-New Mystery For Gus & Shawn
The Psych 4 plot has yet to be revealed, though it could take place more-or-less directly after 2021’s Psych 3: This Is Gus. While it was revealed that the script is finished, none of the writing-related updates have included plot details. Until more is revealed about Psych 4 and what to expect from the plot, any theories are purely speculative. Literally anything could happen to Gus and Shawn after the events of the last movie, and no cliffhangers were left unsolved.
Gus’ marriage means he’s likely beginning to settle down, and the fourth film could feature a fair amount of finality.
However, the movie will likely involve a brand-new mystery for the team to solve, and the characters continue to grow and evolve with each new installment. Gus’ marriage means he’s likely beginning to settle down, and the fourth film could feature a fair amount of finality. Unfortunately, the story of Psych 4 will remain a vexing mystery until Peacock opts to order the film.
