Where To Watch The Amateur: Showtimes & Streaming Status

Rami Malek and Laurence Fisburne’s 2025 spy thriller The Amateur is just days away from hitting theaters nationwide. The Amateur is one of several exciting new movie releases this week, along with Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza’s Warefare and the Christopher Landon (Disturbia, Freaky) thriller Drop. Directed by James Hawes (Slow Horses, One Life), The Amateur is based on the 1981 novel of the same name by Robert Littell, the renowned author of The Company.

The Amateur was previously adapted into a film in 1981 by screenwriter Diana Maddox and director Charles Jarrott. The original film starred John Savage, Marthe Keller, and the late Christopher Plummer. 2025’s The Amateur not only features performances by Malek and Fishburne but also includes Rachel Brosnahan, Jon Bernthal, and Holt McCallany in its cast as well. The film is rated PG-13 for some stronger violence and language and has a total runtime of 2 hours and 3 minutes.

The Amateur Releases In Theaters On April 11, 2025

Early Access Screenings Begin On Thursday Afternoon (April 10)

The Amateur will officially be released in theaters on Friday, April 11, 2025. The earliest screenings available for The Amateur will be offered in the afternoon and evening of Thursday, April 10, 2025, with some showtimes as early as 2:00 pm ET. Early access screenings of The Amateur are offered as late as 10:10 pm on Thursday, April 10. The Amateur will be available to see at just about every major movie theater chain, including AMC, Showcase, Cinemark, Regal, Cineplex, and Alamo Drafthouse. The Amateur should spend at least 2-3 weeks in theaters following its April 11 release date.

The Amateur will eventually be available to stream on Hulu and potentially Disney+ since it is a Disney/20th Century release. The Amateur could arrive on these streaming platforms as early as June 2025 but factors such as critical acclaim and box office success will determine its exact release on Hulu and Disney+.

The Amateur won’t be able to stream on any other streaming service, so viewers who wish to wait for the film to hit a streaming platform will have to subscribe to Hulu or Disney+ later this year. The Amateur is currently projected for a late June 2025 streaming release window.
