Marvel Studios could break a major 24-year-old feature film record with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, allowing the MCU to tell a story never before seen in a live-action Spider-Man movie. Tom Holland has been confirmed to be returning as Peter Parker in 2026’s upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will pick up after the emotional ending of No Way Home. After everyone in the world forgot Spider-Man’s civilian idenтιтy, Brand New Day will kick off a new trilogy for Peter Parker, so it would be great to see it explore a completely new Spider-Man story.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will mark a decade of Spider-Man in the MCU, and over this period, Tom Holland’s web-slinging hero has become one of the franchise’s most popular and profitable characters. His first trilogy, comprising Homecoming, Far From Home and No Way Home, form a lengthy and intense origin story for Spider-Man, but Brand New Day will branch out with Peter Parker now being an independent adult superhero. Marvel Studios has the perfect opportunity to explore a Spider-Man story never brought to the screen before in Brand New Day.
Peter Parker Has Had A Love Interest In Every Mainstream Spider-Man Movie
Mary Jane, Gwen Stacy & MJ Have Been Spider-Man’s Love Interests In Live-Action
In Spider-Man’s recent movie history, the wall-crawler has never been seen on-screen without a love interest. Most recently, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker began his solo MCU career with a crush on Midtown High senior Liz, the daughter of Michael Keaton’s Vulture, and later formed a strong romantic relationship with Zendaya’s MJ, which has blossomed into a real-world relationship between Zendaya and Holland. However, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is not the only wall-crawler to find love after becoming a hero, as Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield also explored this story.

Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker, back in Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy, stayed fairly faithful to his Marvel Comics roots, as he formed a тιԍнт and long-running romance with Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane Watson, though there was also a moment with Bryce Dallas Howard’s Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man 3. Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man duology brought Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker and Emma Stone’s revamped Gwen Stacy together, and marked their tragic end. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will mark the wall-crawler’s latest live-action adventure, but this doesn’t need to include a new love story.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is Too Soon For Marvel To Introduce A New Love Interest
There Has Been Speculation Of A New Love Interest In Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Doctor Strange’s spell at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home wiped everyone’s memories of Peter Parker, including the likes of Strange himself, Happy Hogan, Ned Leeds and even Parker’s new girlfriend, Zendaya’s MJ. This was a hugely emotional ending that left Peter Parker completely alone, perhaps opening the door for a new supporting cast and romantic interest to debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, it seems far too soon for a new love interest to simply appear and replace MJ in Brand New Day, so Marvel Studios can finally break this trend.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as the first in a new solo trilogy for the wall-crawler in the MCU, would be the perfect place for Spider-Man to explore a romance-less storyline on-screen for the first time since 2002’s Spider-Man movie. The love story between Peter Parker and MJ in the MCU is too iconic and beloved to just replace it off-handed and so soon. While there’s no doubt that Spider-Man will get a new love interest sometime down the line, perhaps Gwen Stacy or Felicia Hardy’s Black Cat, Spider-Man: Brand New Day would be better off telling a different story.
Why Leaving Peter Parker Without A Romance Would Be Great For Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Peter Parker Doesn’t Need A New Love Interest In The MCU
If any live-action movie is going to explore a Spider-Man story without a romantic undertone, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the perfect opportunity. Peter Parker will surely still be traumatized and lost after No Way Home, so it surely isn’t the time to have him engage in a new romance, especially after losing a love as powerful as that which he shared with Zendaya’s MJ. It would be fantastic to see Marvel Studios spread Spider-Man’s wings without a love story, so Brand New Day can do something that no previous live-action Spider-Man movie has done.
Spider-Man is far more than just a lover in Marvel Comics, but he has always been tied to his relationships with various girls and women in his Marvel movie history. While many want to see a new love interest more appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it would be better to see Parker’s story develop organically without a new romance being forced where it doesn’t belong. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will change the status quo for Spider-Man in the MCU, and removing a love interest would be a great way to accomplish this.
