Sentry Officially Gets Named In The MCU Through New Thunderbolts* International Trailer

“Bob” properly gets his comic book moniker as a new Thunderbolts* trailer confirms his idenтιтy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase 5 is getting closer to its end, as the Thunderbolts* movie will serve as the final film before The Multiverse Saga finally moves on to Phase 6. As the morally grey team is finally getting its due in the MCU timeline, Marvel Studios is ramping up the Thunderbolts* marketing, with the movie arriving in less than a month.

The official Marvel Australia & New Zealand recently debuted a new international Thunderbolts* trailer alongside several other Marvel channels, as tickets are going on sale today, and one of the big highlights from the footage was Lewis Pullman’s new MCU player. After keeping him a mystery (and still in the shadows), the footage finally has the Thunderbolts* movie dub him Sentry. Check it out below:

Throughout the Thunderbolts* international footage, Sentry gets categorized as stronger than all of the Avengers combined before being defined as soon-to-be “Earth’s Mightiest Hero.” While not showing him entirely, the Thunderbolts* trailer does give a closer look at Sentry as his eyes begin to glow, showcasing how powerful he is to the world.

What The Thunderbolts* Trailer Means For The MCU

It’s not a big surprise that the Thunderbolts* international trailer has ended up making it clear that Pullman’s character is named Sentry, especially after recent developments. To begin with, Sentry is one of six Thunderbolts* cast members confirmed to return in Avengers: Doomsday, making it evident that he will survive the events of the Phase 5 installment. To suggest that Pullman is only “Bob” who is now making his way into an Avengers movie would thus perhaps be redundant at this point.

It also seems that the prospect of Sentry being in Thunderbolts* is becoming one of Marvel Studios’ worst-kept secrets, similar to when many already knew that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire were coming back for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Given previous Thunderbolts* trailers have continued to showcase Pullman’s shadow-y MCU player and draw parallels between the on-screen character and Marvel comic character, plenty believed “Bob” to be Sentry far before any confirmation. It’s also smart marketing to remind the public that a future Avengers: Doomsday cast member will be introduced in 2025 as a seeming antagonist for the Thunderbolts* cast.

Our Take On The Thunderbolts* Trailer

While it may be a bit surreal that it took Marvel Studios until Thunderbolts* being one month away from its release to confirm Sentry’s name, it’s great that the trailer has now put it out there, which is bound to build more excitement for the film. The bigger question that remains, however, is how these MCU characters will deal with someone as powerful as Sentry. In order to find out, MCU fans will have to catch Thunderbolts* in theaters on May 2.
