Halle Berry confirms she won’t be part of the X-Men cast returning for the MCU’s upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. To the delight of MCU fans, Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement confirmed the return of twenty-seven Marvel actors and their respective Marvel characters, many of which will meet for the first time in the upcoming Avengers crossover movie. Surprisingly, a large portion of Fox’s original X-Men cast will return, though a few major stars are still missing from Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast.
Speaking to Black Girl Nerds on the Crime 101 red carpet at CinemaCon 2025, Storm actor Halle Berry rejected the theory that a chair with her name would be revealed in Avengers: Doomsday‘s next cast announcement. When asked whether she would be confirmed to return as Storm in Avengers: Doomsday, Berry advised fans to “keep waiting” because she’s “not gonna be there.” Halle Berry is one of the biggest names from Fox’s original X-Men trilogy not included in Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast so far.
What Halle Berry’s Storm Return Comments Mean
Halle Berry Leaves Little Room For Doubt About Storm’s MCU Return
It has become tradition for Marvel actors who return in multiversal MCU movies to deny their involvement in their respective projects in order to keep their role a surprise for fans. Actors such as Patrick Stewart, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire have done this, to varying degrees of credibility. But while Halle Berry’s comments should be taken with a grain of salt, the Crime 101 star has been distinctly straightforward in her response. There’s little reason why Halle Berry would have to conceal her return in Avengers: Doomsday after several X-Men actors have already been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios.
Our Take On Halle Berry’s Storm Return Comments
Avengers: Doomsday’s X-Men Cast Raises Several Questions
The return of multiple X-Men characters in Avengers: Doomsday suggests that the Avengers will team up with one of the many live-action X-Men timelines in order to fight Doctor Doom. However, the absence of characters like Halle Berry’s Storm, Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey, and Anna Paquin’s Rogue hints at many possible scenarios. For instance, Avengers: Doosmday‘s version of the X-Men might come from a universe where some members died, or one where the X-Men are as popular as the Avengers and thus some of the mutant team’s members had to stay behind protecting their world. Perhaps the X-Men returning in Avengers: Doomsday will die, and the rest will arrive in Avengers: Secret Wars to avenge them.
Whatever the case, Avengers: Doomsday‘s X-Men will not be the same versions of the characters featured in Fox’s X-Men movies. Strictly speaking, Fox’s original X-Men were killed by the Sentinels and later replaced by alternate variants in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Then, the new X-Men were wiped out prior to the events of Logan, where Hugh Jackman’s original Wolverine died. The X-Men from Wolverine’s timeline in ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine were also killed, this time by humans. Therefore, Avengers: Doomsday will probably introduce a brand-new version of the X-Men, who could have a vastly different origin and backstory.
