Final Destination Bloodlines is giving a twist to Death’s design, but it’s also bringing an old Death “rule” with a disappointing twist. The trend of reboots and long-awaited sequels continues to grow strong in the horror genre, and among the franchises joining them this year is Final Destination. Over a decade after the release of Final Destination 5, the franchise is coming back with a sixth movie, тιтled Final Destination Bloodlines. Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, Final Destination Bloodlines follows the premise of the franchise, but with an interesting twist.
Final Destination Bloodlines follows Stefani (Kaitlyn Santa Juana), a college student who begins to be haunted by a nightmare of her family’s horrible deaths. Stefani returns home to ask her grandmother, Iris (Gabrielle Rose), about these visions, as Iris had one decades ago that allowed her to save many lives. Death is now going after the descendants of the survivors, as they should have never been born. Final Destination Bloodlines will reveal more about Death and its design, but will also bring an old “rule” back, though with a disappointing twist.

We Already Know How This Will Turn Out For The New Characters
The big twist in Final Destination Bloodlines (at least so far) is Death being more of a generational curse, going after the families of those who shouldn’t have survived that one “accident” decades ago. This already changes Death’s “rules” and design, but Final Destination Bloodlines is also bringing back an old “rule”, but with a very disappointing twist. Footage from Final Destination Bloodlines was shown at 2025’s CinemaCon, and it was a full death sequence where the victims are two brothers, who are Stefani’s cousins.
The footage shows the brothers at a hospital, as they wonder how they can choose to kill someone, and after briefly considering killing a newborn baby, they decide to kill one of them so he can be revived and thus cheat death. The plan is for one of them to eat a bar with an ingredient he’s allergic to, but a chain of bizarre events is unleashed that leads to the deaths of both – and what makes it more ironic and even frustrating, is that the allergic brother saves himself, but just for a second as he’s eventually killed.
This follows a rule established in Final Destination 2 that says “new life stops death”, though the characters initially interpret it differently. The survivors of the initial disaster believe that, if the pregnant woman among them delivers her baby, they will all be saved as the baby is that “new life.” However, the pregnant woman was never part of Death’s plan and wasn’t involved in the accident, so the rule meant something completely different. Kim (A.J. Cook) eventually figures out that it means dying and being brought back, so she drowns herself and is revived at the hospital.
This rule wasn’t mentioned or applied again in the rest of the Final Destination movies until now, but this specific scene at the hospital is already giving a disappointing twist: the more you try to cheat Death, the more violent and convoluted the eventual death will be. It proves what the audience has known all this time: Death truly can’t be cheated, which is disappointing and even frustrating.

As much as the brothers in Final Destination Bloodlines tried to survive through this old rule and failed, the return of this specific rule makes one character from Final Destination 2 even better: Kim. It’s Kim who has the premonition of the ᴅᴇᴀᴅly pile-up on U.S. Route 23 caused by a logging truck, making her the main character. Because of this, it’s Kim who tests the rule of dying and being brought back as “new life”, and to everyone’s surprise, it works.
Kim is still one of only two survivors and the only one who successfully applied that specific rule to save herself and another person.
Kim saves herself and Burke (Michael Landes), as they are the only remaining survivors of the pile-up, though that didn’t save a teenager who was saved by another survivor in another accident. Kim and Burke are the only two survivors in the Final Destination saga, though, in a featurette тιтled “Choose Your Fate” in the Final Destination 3 DVD, a newspaper reveals Kim and Burke died in a bizarre accident – however, this isn’t considered canon, so Kim is still one of only two survivors and the only one who successfully applied that specific rule to save herself and another person.
Final Destination Bloodlines Only Makes A Mysterious Character Even More Confusing (But Can Fix It)
The Mystery Around This Character Might Finally Be Solved In Final Destination Bloodlines
This rule coming back and not working makes Kim better, but it also makes William Bludworth (Tony Todd) even more mysterious and confusing. In every one of his appearances in the Final Destination movies, Bludworth delivers some hints about Death’s design, its rules, and how they could cheat death. It’s thanks to him that Kim learns of the “new life” rule and is able to survive, but as seen in Final Destination Bloodlines (so far, at least), the rule doesn’t always apply. Now, Bludworth is coming back in Bloodlines, so he could shed some light on this and other rules.
In addition to that, Final Destination Bloodlines is expected to explore Bludworth’s past, finally solving the many mysteries around him. It has been theorized that Bludworth has some deal with Death or even that he could be Death itself, so hopefully, Final Destination Bloodlines will bring some definitive answers about why he knows so much about Death and why some rules don’t seem to always apply.
